Maybe I am simply error-prone, but having a 2 minute expiration date on being able to edit a post is rather... constricting. It takes me 2 minutes alone to gather my thoughts, let alone write something down. Two minutes is time enough to correct a misspelled word or two, but it is hardly time enough to edit a thought.

Removing the time restriction, or at least lengthening it to 10 minutes would be nice. That's just my view on the matter, though.

Oh! You should just open up Wordpad or something, and do your post in there. That way you can view all the old posts in the forum easily, navigate around if you need to, and you don't have to worry about time limits. Also, if your web-browser dies or something, you won't have to lose your post and everything you've written!

I know it's not a solution, but it's a workaround that doesn't work too badly. I use it mainly when I'm typing long posts that I don't want to risk losing.

Just a suggestion! God bless you all!

Yeah seriously. I think we should be able to edit our own posts whenever. I dont even really understand the purpose of the 2 minute restriction. Most forums allow you to edit your posts at any time =P.

Well let's say someone is being a trouble maker and someone else contacts an admin and is like..'hey so and so said this and did this..go look"

If you can always edit posts..the trouble makers can go edit their 'stuff' then be like...'what i dint do nuthin'

...oh

Yeah that makes sense.

Still, you guys should make it like 30 minutes. I'm sure you mods are going to eventually get sick of me wanting you to edit every post i ever make :p

I am new to this site but have been a member at a number of others. I have been a mod on two but pressure of time caused me to resign. I also run my small forum for a very specific clientelle based in the UK

I was surprised that editing was not possible after a 5 minute or more break when I spotted somthing that was not quite right in my original post.

two suggestins spring to mind, one that editing is permitted until somone makes a subsequent post.

If anyone wishes to complain then they can take copy of the post as I have done of Outcasts below (used for illustrative purposes only and no offence to Outcast :))....

... then the proof of what was originally said is there for all to see and the poster can not refute it.

That is a proof of what I said as well.

As much as I dislike the 2 minutes expiration, I think it's a good implementation. However, I would suggest (if possible) that the administrators incorporate a feature that phpBB has. This feature allows you to edit your post as long as no one has posted something after you or while you're editing your post.

On a site I'm an administrator on we do not have a time limit on editing. It can sometimes be humorous when someone edits a post while you are responding to the post they had before they edited it, but it is otherwise a very nice feature. People rarely edit out something bad they said while posting, because they would feel no need to. If they were brave enough to post something bad it is either because they don't fear the consequences or they don't think what they said was bad. In any case, I have not encountered a time where someone was reported on the forums and proof of the crime was not readily available.

However, I do think the time limit idea is a good one. It can get annoying when an OP from two weeks prior is suddenly deleted because the author decided s/he didn't like what s/he said in the OP.

Yes i think it would be better to increase the length, because 2 minutes is really really short!
Give it at least 2 hours. And I would say one day maybe.
I know that there is a reason why this is. Because people can change there text so nobody understands anymore what is going on. Or some strange actions can be made. But yeah... 2 minutets are really too short.
Btw. This is not a really hard change... So RoboOp might be able to realise this easily.

I mean if you really want to be strict on this and are worried about people's behavior, you have to show that the person is not set out to attack others habitually. They are interested in discussing the Bible and set out to attack the doctrine and not the person. They have a love for all people. If a person seems hateful towards others repeatedly on the forum, then they are disqualified (Unless they can prove that they honestly changed and are sorry for hurting others). This would obviously be folks who have a high post count and have earned themselves a good reputation or a good report amongst others. Perhaps a few referals would help, too.

So having "free unrestricted edits" or "generously extended edits" would have to include:

#1. Donation.
#2. Good report that can be seen.
#3. High post count.
#4. 2-3 Referrals that you are loving and kind from other loving believers.

I think that such a thing would be more than sufficient to resolve the problem.
