I know this is a Christan site , but if want people to respond to your needs , please make your sentences clear and concise. There is no need to copy a whole page from your bible as we can look it up ourselves. One or two phrases will explain a lot and use words from the heart and explain what you are trying to say and what response do you need from us to help you . eg personal opinion, past experiences etc. Also check your spelling and don't rave on and on about a topic. We will understand it the first time. Many thanks

Speaking of being concise; the purpose of this Suggestions forum is for helping to improve the website; not people. ;) But I agree to an extent! It's considerate to articulate, IMO.

Thank you for this my Friends.
Although the difficulty I still have some times is in compensating for the fact that my Mother tongue is Munster Gaelic & not English.
Some weeks I have to remember I'm not in Ireland!

Ockham's Razor: Never multiply words beyond necessity. I think this is part of what's being asked. :D

I think this is the start of better idea. What i think would be useful here is an organized post including information, such as this one http://christianchat.com/new-christian-chat-members-introduce-yourselves/31669-help-new-users.html
that teaches new users the basics of the site. But instead of the chatter that is underneath it, have some other posts planned out and put it to give other advice. Teaching ideas, such as the one in the OP here, and also not to use all caps... not to use excessive punctuation... to put breaks in blocks of text instead of writing one solid giant wall... and other things that make things easier. Gathering all this information into one neatly presented, closed, thread and sending a link in CCmail to each new user. Perhaps then finding a way to make that post more obvious and easy to find.

I believe that if you can't state your point in 3 or 4 sentences, its probably not much of a point. ;)

Im NOT saying that long posts are bad. I know that people like to extrapolate on their points, but if I don't get the point clearly in the first 3 or 4 sentences, then I just shake my little head and move on.

ah who wants to be all pointy?

forum and chatroom etiquette thread/post would be useful if people actually read them.

as Zero pointed out, most lose interest after 3 to 4 sentence.

ok used up my 4 ;)

It boils down to what you learned in high school English: lay your point out early, take the time to support it with detail, then summarize to refresh the reader's mind.

Yes, if a poster wants his/her post read and replied to, it just makes sense to make it as easy to read as possible. Punctuation and larger font sizes definitely helps.

After around 35 yrs of age, eyes really do have trouble with small print :)

I agree with Ugly....a help page for beginners would be nice! I certainly need one.

And also some helpful comments on the use of emoticons. They really do set a 'mood' for the post. Several times I've given the wrong impression by not using emoticons :)
