I want to be able to give reputation to who I want, when I want. Isn't that the whole purpose of reps? To show truely who is esteemed by others?

But I constantly get the "you must spread reputation around first" message. ARGH! I shouldn't have to give other people rep who I don't know or I don't think deserve rep just so it's "balanced".

I'm really not very familiar with it. I'll have to look into it.

I have no idea how to give rep to anyone else, however I do have a question on this topic. I know if we go to control panel we can see the latest 'reputation' that has been given us.

My question is this: Why can't we see WHO gave it to us. We can see, the date, the thread it relates to, the time, and a comment... but we have NO CLUE who gave it to us.

This is utterly frustrating! I have noticed some comments given to me and would really like to know WHO gave them to me, so I can thank these people for their lovely comments, or so next time I see them, we can talk further about that topic.

Just wondering if this is a feature that can posibly be added?

I've been able to see who gave rep to me...... but maybe that's just coz I'm admin? :D

Maybe there is a setting to enable it for others ... or maybe it is enabled but you don't know where to look?

Okay here's what Kyra was talking about. I found the option in the vBulletin forum software control panel:

Reputation User Spread
How many different users must you give reputation to before you can hit the same person again?

20

The default is 20. I guess the purpose is to prevent someone being pumped up with reputation just by one person. High reputation points should indicate being esteemed by many people (not just one person who keeps pumping you up with pionts). I guess that's the reason behind this default setting.

Yah I think it does make sense. It needs to be set to something. Maybe 20 is too high for us. I've changed it to 10.

Okay hopefully Kyra is satisfied :) ... now for Ira......

I found the option for hiding who left rep points... by default it does hide it. I just now changed it. So now you can see who leaves rep points for you. I think that's good, to see who agrees with you or appreciates or likes what you post.

Umm ok so someone just pointed out to me that now it also shows not only who added rep points to you but also who took away rep points... and now this person wishes they didn't know what they now know :)

So I"m changing it back until or unless we get a consensus on this :)
