I'm going to be a brat and ask for another option in the "attach a file" box: mp3 files.

There are a few people on cc who share or would like to share music that they've recorded, so it would be really cool to upload our mp3 files into the music forum! Pretty please? With sparkles on it? :D

It uses a lot of hard drive space. Why not get a facebook page and link to it? A thread the other day mentioned this and several other free options. Mine is in my website in my bio, and several more are coming as soon as we get proper recordings.

There is a way to make a "movie," using an MP3 file, and then post it on YouTube. Somewhere on YouTube they tell you how to do it. It's not too hard, I don't think. You can just use a picture, and call that a movie.

I should add that you need to respect copyright laws when you post on YouTube.

YouTube might be my best option. I was pretty sure (though not positive) that we used to be able to attach mp3 files to cc posts. The option, if it was ever there, isn't there now. And that would just be an easier way to share our music, rather than creating an account on another site and then embedding or linking to it.

But if that's what I need to do, then that's what I'll do.

But you also have to keep in mind the goal of this site. Its to present a place of chatting and fellowship. Its not here to boost peoples music careers or things like that. There is also the solicitation rule that has to be considered. I'm sure he doesn't want every person that writes a song to feel CC is a vehicle to push their music.

I've never seen an mp3 option on posts.

And though it may be easier for the user, it would be a lot more work, time, and money for Robo. The extra space needed to cover the mp3's would possibly require upgrades in hard drives. Then there's the time to install the new hardware. Then there's the time and effort into writing the programming into it all. So he could spend all that time and money, or you could spend 30 seconds signing up for Youtube.

I wasn't looking to boost anyone's career. I realize that people might want to use it that way, but good music is good music. It would be like YouSing, just not "live".

There's one huge reason why I would prefer to be able to attach mp3 files, instead of using YouTube. That way, people should be able to save the songs to their computers, as mp3 files, and put them on their mp3 players. I've got nine songs on my ipod that were sung by some cc friends. We exchanged email addresses and shared the files that way, and in one instance we used a file sharing website. But, this would be an easy way to share with whatever cc members are interested. Since the forum already has the capability of attaching that kind of file, for the admins to use, I assumed it wouldn't be too awful much trouble to let us regular users at it.

HOWEVER. I know about dwindling webspace, crammed servers, programming headaches, and babysitting members to guard against possibly piracy issues. I realize that there are reasons why the suggestion might not be implemented. And I said that I would use another method, if that was what I needed to do. It was a suggestion, not a demand. That's what this area of the forums is for... or so I hear. ;)

I know it wasn't a 'demand' i was simply pointing out why it may not be feasible. People are so touchy in these suggestion forums lately.
