Besides simply hiding what person that you "ignored" had to say about your thread or post, make them unable to see the threads and post that you make completely.

I'm really trying not to sound rude, but some of the things that Some (not all) people say on here are either wrong, irrelevant or arrogant. Not only do they cause the maker of the thread some distress, but they also cause those who are actually interested in the thread some distress as well - and this isn't necessary.

Of course Banning someone because one doesn't agree or like what they say isn't a good option, but if the ignore option could update in the way I explained, it can be very useful - In my opinion.

This is simply My opinion - if you disagree, I'm Sorry. Just Please don't start an argument or anything like that because some of us have some anger issues.

You know, I've used the ignore function on forums under five times in my life. I tend to like to hear what people say even if I disagree or dislike them.

That said, two of those times are on this site alone. It's usually bad here for a certain kind of spammy non-contributing or essentially non-contributing poster.

I agree. There are some people on here that may be known trouble makers or just argumentative(yes, I can be like that too)
If I create a thread to where I feel that they may be compelled to cause issue then it would be nice to have the option to prevent them from reading it.

Kind of like the Facebook "block" feature.

There used to be a guy on here but is banned now. has been for a while but he got to where he just did not like me and a few others. He even got to where he would follow me around in other threads. I did not agree with his posts. Many didn't. He was extremely irrational, and got to the point to where he would spam forums. He would have been someone I would block.

I mean it's one thing to be argumentative about something Right. But I mean some arguments in general are flat out rude and unnecessary.
And for some people, they're involved in other branches of Christianity (even though, I Honestly don't understand why) and what They believe is right may not be right to someone else who's also a christian - but in a different branch of it.

Honestly, there shouldn't be many branches as there are today, but that's how it is now days..
Now, I don't want people to be uneasy about what I just said, so please just try to carry on about the ignore option. Do not argue about what I said about branches of Christianity, I'm only making a point in my opinion.

I recently came across someone that seemed to have the mentality that if you did not agree with them then you aren't a true follower of Christ...and it wasn't even in a thread about the bible.

Thats the impression I got from them. They took an issue to a level it should not have been, and then had it in their mind I was not a good person. something said along the lines of they could clearly see how I am...... uhhhh... ok???

See, That's what I'm talking about. This is a good example of how the ignore option (the way I explained how it should be) could be used. Sometimes those types of people tend to harass you. They begin to post in every one of your threads and explain how you're "wrong" or they could even inbox you multiple times if they wanted to.

Actually the Christian way to go about it IF someone is actually "wrong" is to approach them privately and in kindness(which I fail to do sometimes too). Not derail a thread with demeaning comments. Yet some end up harassing others. I guess they tend to become obsessed.
Of course PMing someone doesnt mean to harrass them there either.

Okay, but seriously.

But I mean some arguments in general are flat out rude and unnecessary.
I think all "arguments" by definition are unnecessary. If I recall correctly, it was Ravi Zacharias that said: "In a world where we can disagree, we ought not be disagreeable."

A more thorough/robust/well-rounded implementation of the ignore feature has been requested a few times. Now that the site has had an overhaul and it hasn't been incorporated yet, I don't foresee it happening [soon]. :(

Hmm..I didn't know others asked for a better ignore feature before..I thought it may have been just me that didn't quite like it so much.

I'm not understanding what difference it makes if someone you ignore can read your posts. I have people on ignore and it works fine for me.

Correct, but sometimes people still will tend to derail it and cause strife. IF they're a problem them prevent them from being in the thread at all.

Ah, well, not really. They may not be able to read the thread you created, but they are still able to read all the response threads. And still can derail the thread without ever seeing the original post. Or if someone quotes the original post the problem person can still see it that way. Ignore does not work on quotes.

Hiya there

Generally bock features on forums just don't work very well, if someone was wanting to see your comments or comment on them couldn't they simply not log in or log in as another person and simply cut and paste your comment without ever revealing who the alt is?

Also couldn't they see if others quoted you, there is no way to block a quote being visible to anyone you have blocked, it's is actually a good idea in principle, but almost impossible to implement effectively in the way you suggest !

Believe me trolls are better dealt with than hidden from.

Malby :)

i suggest people make use of the group option if they don't want to talk to certain people. that way they can't see what you post in those groups.
