Hey all,
Most of us on here who have been here long enough should see that theres a bit of an issue with duplicate threads on commons topics for eg sabbaths, pre mid post trib discussions, homosexuality etc. I dont know where to draw the line as to what subjects could be a consolidated sticky but I think with certain topics it should be discussed in one thread. Yes people should use search but they dont, this could remedy the issue unless mods are prepared to be vigilant on duplicate thread topics.
Sorry if this has been discussed before.

just some thoughts:

new threads about previously discussed topics is an issue on every forum on the internet.

people complain about reviving old threads too, though in a lot of cases it may be better than starting new ones. not always though - like the new members intro section - not real smart to say "welcome" to someone who joined 5 years ago eh?

it's not really workable to have twenty stickied threads in every section - and a thread that's 100's of pages long (like it would be if every thread about homosexuality for ex. were consolidated) - no one is going to read.

there's also that posting in forums, we're not writing an encyclopedia, a 'wiki' or a reference manual; we're engaging in active conversations and discussion, especially given the subject matter here - this place has a much different character than, say, a windows operating system forum, where once an error code is explained, there is really no need to ever make another comment about it.

maybe the search button should be much bigger!

Good points BUT

I think I'm quite a seasoned forum user and I think I can boldly say that I haven't seen a forum with so many duplicate threads such as this one - particularly and I'm really only talking about the bible discussion thread.

Reviving dead threads for nothing less than a good reason or replying to someone who said something 12 months ago is useless lol

I wouldn't have 20 stickied threads, maybe 4-5 of the major topics that people tend to make a new thread for without cause? Again mainly in bible discussion section. Yeah the page count would get pretty big and without doubt someone would say something that was already said 20 pages back but for the most part it would be forgotten about - no ones gonna read through pages and pages unless they were really interested in various opinions etc but personally whenever I see another thread pop up about keeping the Sabbath and why you should, I'm not gonna go in, the regulars who like to discuss such issues post enough in them lol

The idea is not about trying to wiki anything, that's more about reading static text, you can have active discussion in a stickied thread like any other.

It's just a thought and idea, if it doesn't get adopted one way or the other, I don't mind..just thought I'd put it out there :)
