Default I know I'm considered Lost

As I said in my introduction. I was raised Baptist. My mom still goes to church. My dad was like me until the last year of his life. He started going to church and started believing in God. So as you would say He was saved.

Now I'm not here to bash as Ugly would like you to think. I am actually here to see others views. I have went thru being an atheist in the military cause it was a rough time in my life. But as I got older I have changed my views. I believe there is a Higher Power. A Being that put us here.

I have read the Bible many times. And maybe I just don't have a strong enough understanding of it. But there are things I just can't believe. I won't go into detail, cause I'm not here to bash and try and steer anyone from their beliefs.

I do pray. I pray to a loving being. One that can overlook my disbelief.

Please forgive my ignorance. As I said, I am not here to bash but to read and see what others see. To get an honest view.

From this post I believe that you may not be much of an atheist but rather someone who, through a series of circumstances, became disillusioned by a God that supposedly loves us. God will not overlook your unbelief but will be with you in restoring the faith that you once had and strengthen it further. Based on what I have read in your posts I would say that you're going to fit right in here in our community.

There are some things in the Bible which are difficult to take - and to believe. The first time I read it I admit I was confused. It becomes easier the more you know God. Before reading pray for understanding, The Holy Spirit will give you that understanding but maybe not all at once. It is not "easy reading" and often you must read between the lines and look for the deeper meaning. Actually each time you read the Bible you see something you didn't notice before!

Have you fully given your life to Christ? It is easier for those with The Holy Spirit to be directed by Him. Blessings to you.

Come to Me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light. (Matt 11:28-30)

this invitation is open to you, LostRider. i plead with you to go to Christ, and be reconciled to God.

God cannot overlook our unbelief, but He can grant us belief.

I'm smiling, Rider. Thank God I also do not believe much in "Religion." For far too many years, I did. And many "Christians" still do. I think it is they, who are the "heavily laden" ones *notmyown* just posted about.

If you are here for an HONEST view, then you cannot get angry when people tell you the truth according to the Bible. We pray to a loving God,but a loving God must also be a just God,or He would not be loving. I'm sorry, but God does not over look your disbelief. And making yourself a god who agrees with you will not change the fact that God will judge you one day and you will have to give account for your life.

Now you say you've read the Bible many times and don't believe parts of it. But how can you trust any part of the Bible as true? If part if it isn't true, none of it is true. But my advice to you is to not stop reading.Ask God to show you the truth. Be open and let Him show you the truth. I challenge you to take a leap of faith and you will be surprised when He catches you.You wont regret it.

See that is one of the things I can't believe. If we were given the mind to forgive and forget then why is it hard to believe that He/She can't

    Hi Lostrider,

    Welcome to CC!

Do you have questions you'd like to ask? You can mention the things you just can't believe. That's what we're here for.

We'd like to help you as much as possible to see God as He truly is and not as others want to present Him as. If you end up where you still don't believe, at least we can try to help you see the true God and not one that's made into someone else's image.

Anyway, be forewarned that there are a multitude of different beliefs here. They're not all the same. But at least you will be presented with a true gospel of God's grace and love, His justice, righteousness and mercy.

I would hope that in your asking and commenting that you would try to be civil and hopefully those who respond to you will be as well.

This all belongs in the Bible forum, not in Testimonies, but anyhoo... God DOES forgive us, and when we repent our sins, He remembers them no longer.. Bad things happen to everyone, not just you alone. We aren't promised an easy life, but we ARE promised that all our toils and trials will be worth it.

He can and does forgive.Had Hitler asked for forgiveness he could have been in heaven today. Its not lack of His forgiveness that sends people to hell. The fault is not His.

    Hi LostRider,

What you are able to do is because you were made in His image and likeness. You can forgive and forget because He is forgiving.

Our sins have separated us from our Creator God. You, me all of us have sinned against God. No one is perfect as God is perfect. You see, that's the point. We need Him because we're broken.

The way we're restored is by confessing our sins and asking God to come into our lives to make us whole and new. And when He does He empowers us to walk in truth and walk in righteousness through the transforming power of the Holy Spirit. He gives us the righteousness we don't have, He gives us the love that we don't have, He gives us joy that we don't have, grace, mercy justification are all given through the new birth.

For we are saved by grace, through faith. There is nothing you can do because we are impure in our fallen nature. We have no good thing that dwells in us of our own. We are sinners who don't seek the goodness of God. We seek a false goodness that's based in the natural man who is unrighteous. We need God. We can't live a holy life without Him.

Lost, I havent been following everything and obviously there is more to this than this post,
But it appears that you have been growing spiritually and I commend you for that, your military training should have prepared you for your Christian walk. Jesus and the devil are at war, Thats what the whole world is, its one big battlefield for spiritual warfare. But I can tell where your issue is, its the fact your religious, and not really saved. See your doing every thing right in a religious sence, your going to church, you are praying and reading your Bible, But you dont believe your Bible.

Jesus said, I am the way the truth and the life, no man cometh unto the father but by me. See You don't have the relationship with Jesus, if you had the relationship, you would be saved yourself. With that strong relationship with Christ satan could hit you with everything he has and your life would still be solid and your faith strong.

Remember Jesus said to build your life upon him, he is the rock of our salvation, the Corner stone the builders rejected.
If your faith is failing, your faith is in something other than Jesus. Jesus is the rock that the church is built upon.
trust me dude, I've seen hell, and I've been through the fire. With out Christ there is no hope on earth.

You trust Christ and Christ alone for your salvation, you'll find the salvation you've been looking for. The awe inspiring, life changing grace that makes life worth the living, and faith that holds you together when your life is falling apart.

I'm not here to bash you either, but have you ever considered the obvious? You think a loving being is fine overlooking your unbelief? Are you dating or married? Or have you ever been in a relationship with someone who meant something to you? Would you want that person to overlook you simply not believing her? Or, at some time in that relationship would you ask for the obvious thing you need -- give me a reason to believe you?

I didn't come at God with the same background you have. (Why would I want to read the Bible? What's in it that interested me? I openly admit I didn't come at this like you did.) I just said the obvious, "Let me know you, God."

And poof! (Okay, went to sleep that not not believing, and woke up knowing, so I'm not sure that fits as an official "poof" moment.) He did. so I don't need him to accept me at not accepting him. He changed me to know the "loving being" he really is! And, zowie! He's a lot bigger, more loving, and much more than I ever imagined! AND, added bonus, he loves me even more than I can ever love him.

Nothing personal, but it sure strikes me as silly to have a loving being overlook YOU! Why would anyone want that?

    Hey Lynn,
Thanks for the response. But here's my thinking. Again, just my train of thought. When it comes to a loved one. I can see, hear, and touch them. Hence, the belief is easy. When it comes to God. I can't see him/her, hear him/her, or see him/her. So it's harder for me to believe. Now like I said, as I have grown older my beliefs have changed. From being an atheist, a complete non believer. To being what I see as an agnostic, believing in a higher power.

So age has changed me, somewhat. As an atheist I would NEVER Had a discussion. I would have completely written off anyone here has to say. But as an agnostic, I am interested in why others believe in the bible. And why they believe in their God. I say their God, because different religions have different Gods. Catholic, Buddhism, as example.

My thoughts that keep going thru my mind though. So much has changed since the Old Testament and New Testament were written. Just like Christians uses to use the sign of the fish to show other Christians who they were. Cause being an open Christian was signing your own death certificate. Just using these as examples.

But here's a question for you. How can a man or woman who has lived their life in Christ, but have one flaw be damned forever? That one flaw, according to the bible, being homosexual.

If you can see, hear, and touch your loved one, the Lord has been gracious to you. Much of my family lives far from me, and I am not able to travel by car that far. They still love me and I still love them. I don't need to see, hear, or touch them to know this. I know them and they know me.

And the Lord is closer. He lives here -- in me, in this house, in this world. And I do see what he does all the time, and yet less often than I should.

It seems you are a self-determined man. Questions: How do you convince yourself to go to sleep at night? Because if you are asleep, how can you breathe without remembering to fill your own lungs? For that matter, what tells you there is enough oxygen to breathe? Do you live on an oxygen bottle for fear the next breathe you take might not have oxygen right there? And who pumps your heart?

How do you know what morning is? What guarantee do you have that the earth continues to spin, even when you sleep? When you turn the key to your car's engine, what makes you know it will start? What stops the rules of science from working? Or, what started the rules of science to work?

You aren't quite as self-determined as you imagine, or you wouldn't be an agnostic thinking there is a divine being out there, right?

So, next question. What does he want? Have you ever made something -- anything? I've dabbled into just about any hobby likely for a girl. (Not mechanical at all, so gave up on "any-any" hobby for safety's sake. Smashed fingers and jolts of electricity coursing through me unexpectedly convinced me they weren't good hobbies. lol) Needlework, wreath making, stained glass, (burning myself with a soldering iron and cutting my fingers until they were callused was acceptable. lol), gardening, and writing. Out of everything I've made, I expected something from them. I never made something, and then dropped it off on the side of the road. I expected something. So have you ever made something and then expected nothing out of it? If you haven't, why wouldn't you expect God to have the same concept? He created all this. He created us. And he expected something out of it. Out of us. Is it acceptable to you to think the creator should get nothing from what he created?

And is it expected that the created has no need to find out what we were created for? Instead, let the created decide what it wants to do, and when, and ignore the Creator until it wants something from the Creator. The jar decides it wants to be a boat, and ask the creator for an engine to travel the water. Is it the duty of the creator to supply an engine? The herb garden decides it wants to be a forest, so ask the Creator for some trees. Is it the duty of the Creator to provide the evergreens?

What do you do when you create something but it doesn't want to do what you want it to do? Ah! That was a trick question. You're probably thinking I expected you to throw it out, but that's just not true. We, who create new things from pieces of material, don't go that way until there is no other choice but to throw it out. Something happens during the process of creating. We grow a connection to the thing. (The Lord had the connection before he created, but if I could explain him completely in terms like we use, then all I did was create a bigger man to play the part of God.) If it doesn't work right, we will try to fix it until it does. If we can't fix it, we figure out how to use it with its defect. (In front of me is a stained-glass bass with a eye-hook too small to hang from, so it's hanging on string below the hook. That kind of thing.)

We do that and we're just people. God does it in his sovereign being. So, no. A homosexual isn't condemned for "one flaw."

First, that's not a flaw. It's sin. I have a bad back. That's a flaw, and I will never be condemned for that. I will be condemned if I curse God for the pain, because that's a sin. And if I never repent of that sin, I deserve the condemnation.

Second, our sins do come with the full force of the Law. There is no probation or parole. God set the terms long ago. Break the law, any of it, and the sentence is separation from him, death, and hell. Just like you know the law for military justice, you knew God's law. And, apparently you do know it or you wouldn't be questioning the sentence for a different sin. Is it justice, if you commit treason, get caught, and then given a stern lecture instead of punishment? No! Nor is it right. God set the law in stone, on papyrus, and in our hearts. We have always known when we break the law. And God is always just.

God says damnation for anyone who breaks the Law! Clear enough? That's all of us! Not just the homosexual you pulled out either to make-a-point or from your own guilt. (And, I really don't care which reason you picked that sin.)

BUT he made the scapegoat clause for his law out of his mercy. The scapegoat clause says anyone who has not ever committed that sin can stand in the place of someone who has. If your brother stole, and you never have, you can take his punishment for him. What his punishment was depends on what he stole, but it goes from paying back twofold to death, so you might want to think over how much you love your brother. lol

But who can cover all sin? How many perfect people have you run into in your life? One was and he did. His name is/was Jesus of Nazareth -- 100% God and 100% Man.

Did he die for the homosexual too? Sometimes. Not all homosexuals, but all the ones who truly put their faith in him and repented because of that.

So, your real question is "why can't he just overlook my sin and let me do what I want to do?" So far? Because you're a jar who wants to be a boat. You might be able to turn a jar into something that floats, but you will never turn it into a boat.

My question to you is, why don't you want to be a jar? He designed you for a good purpose. Why don't you want to find out what? Because the other choice is spending the rest of your life trying to be something you weren't designed to be. And we have access to the Creator, who does tell us what he designed us to be.

Okay Lynn, it's a sin. But so is murder. But a murderer can repent, be saved, and he is fine. But because a person is homosexual, they are screwed. That is what I see as wrong. And for your info, no one in my family is gay. But I do support homosexual marriage. I feel that everyone has the right to be happy and be with the one they love. No matter what the sex be.

I work in Corrections. I see drug addicts, murderers, and sexual predators daily. And watch the churches come in and hold bible study and church services. So, these people can be saved but a homosexual cannot.

Ummm, where do you get repented homosexuals can't ever be saved?

And you blame the prison ministry for not ministering to homosexuals? How's that? Do the homosexuals wear a sign saying, "I'm a homosexual," and the ministers kick them out for that?

Frankly, I really can't tell a murderer from a rapist, a thief from a homosexual, or when one man broke more than one law that got him tossed in the prison to begin with. (Yeah, I have been in prisons as a minister. Can't say I was good at it, but I have been. And I've also been in drug rehab and then worked there. Rarely did sexual preferences even come up.)

No, I think a little misunderstanding. I'll try and clarify. Hopefully, not too good at explaining myself in typing. Military always made me QC verbally, cause my written word is hard to understand.

As far as the ministries coming in, no I do not blame them.

I guess what I am getting at. Say a gay married couple, believe in God, and practice their religion. Jist because they are gay and will never be straight, they are supposed to be damned forever. They are never gonna repent that being gay is a sin. To them, that's all they know.

First, what's QC? (Never been military, so don't know much military-speak.)

Believing in God and practicing their religion doesn't save anyone. You know what your murderer did that the homosexual couple didn't do? Recognize their sin, felt the weight of it, (death and hell penalty is a very heavy weight. So is gone from God, but harder to miss something you never had), begged God for forgiveness, and repented.

Murderer, homosexual, thief, rapist, gossip, haughty, seller-of-11-donuts-when-promised-12, "lusting after women in my heart," etc. There is no degree of okey--dokey, that's-not-so-bad sin. It carries the same weight.

And if you don't call on the Lord out of true guilt, it doesn't really matter whether you do orgies or simply don't fairly. It's all the same. You seem hung up on homosexuals. I know people caught in that sin that did repent. They ARE saved. (And it is never "all they know." It's something taught in very degrading ways.) They DO follow the Lord. Just as I know cheaters who repented and followed, gossips who repented and follow, and seductresses who repented and followed. All of them are saved. And, yeah, it wasn't like the sin they loved was easy to dump all the time.

Who wants to dump their sins? We sin because it makes life easier and faster for us. BUT it's not right, it's not merely some minor fault, and it's not what we were created to be. We are created by God for a very good purpose.

I'm telling you straight up, whether a murderer, homosexual, or little old lady who used that excuse to stiff her paperboy, it's the same in God's eyes. He saves those who see their sin for what it is (an affront to him and to our neighbors) and follow him. A serial killer who tells God he's sorry in between kills isn't saved. The one who truly repents and seeks God's forgiveness is. The homosexual that likes God enough to go to church with his/her lover, isn't saved. The one who realizes the depths of that sin is and asks God to help is. The gossip cutting a little time out to say, "oops, sorry 'bout that" before hitting the next piece of gossip isn't save. The one who realizes the harm done and begs God's forgiveness is.

You seem hung up on the gay agenda. What about you? What are you guilty of doing that you absolutely know is wrong but can't stop yourself or you think you're more important than others so let yourself slide? What about your guilt? Because, honestly? God isn't hung up on who we are quite as much as he is on what he's done/is doing/will continue to do to fix us. And we desperately need to be fixed! (And not the kind of fix where a dog is neutered. lol) We're broken, and God is the fix. And he fixes us out of love, compassion, and authority.

First of all, their marriage is not supported by God even if it is supported by the state. God (Jesus is God) supports in Genesis, Matthew, and Mark that marriage is solely between one man and one woman, husband and wife, groom and bride. Anyone can believe in God but have they trusted Jesus Christ as their personal Savior and sovereign Lord, that he died on the cross for their sins, and rose again on the the third day. Even the demons believe in God and they are not going to be saved. Works-based religion does not save, Jesus saves. You need to understand something when Christians are against homosexuality and any other sin, they are not against homosexuals, rapists, murderers, etc. They are against the behavior (our culture has made it an identity thing) and not the person. Nowadays, our culture is saying I feel, therefore I am. This goes contrary to biblical ethic. There are people who have same-sex attraction in the church but they have decided not to give into it. Some live a celibate life, others get married to a man (if they were a lesbian) or a woman (if they were gay). Anyone who does not put their trust in Christ is sadly going to be condemned forever in hell and not go to heaven whether they are a homosexual or not. People can repent and realize that engaging in homosexual behavior is a sin, the Holy Spirit, he can cause that change in them to do that as well as not want to do the other sins in their life. Also, there are people who were once gay, but were changed by an encounter with Jesus Christ so contrary to our culture once gay, always gay is incorrect. Our culture says never, God says nothing is impossible with him. Dennis Jernigan, Rosaria Butterfield, Christopher Yuan, Sam Alberry, Jackie Hill Perry, etc are examples of what Jesus can do in the lives of those who put their trust in Christ and who come from that background. God loves you, LostRider but you are lost and need a Savior, who is Jesus. Thanks. God bless.
