This past week has been very rough for me. Losing people I love, watching my friends go through a kind of grief I could never imagine, and just having a bad week all together. A friend of mine lost his brother a week and a half ago to a drug OD. He was only 23 and a father to a 1 year old son. I grew up with these boys and it was hard for me to fathom what had happened. I couldn't go to the funeral home because I was sick, and I felt so bad that I wasn't able to be there.
During this last week, I had heard on the news about the first double hand transplant that was performed here in the US. I admire anybody who is an organ donor and I immediately thought of the person whos life was lost to give this man a chance to hold his little girl again.
Yesterday I was reading the town paper and there was a picture of this operating room scence and under the picture, it said it was showing the doctors at UPMC in Pittsburgh performing the double hand transplant. The article under the picture said "Former Clearfield resident was the donor for the double hand transplnt." Here it was my friend's brother. God had taken that tragedy and turned it into an amazing story of life. Jeff was able to save many lives through the gift of organ donation. The same man who received his hands will also receive his bone marrow.
So God has totally brought me through a lot this week. I've cried a lot but God has brought me from the ashes through this young man's story. So ya, I just wanted to share this with everyone.

And for my poll, I would love to know how many of you are organ donors!

A story of hope out of tragedyy. I hope the lives that were touched by his organ donation go on to be very wonderful ones through one of the good decisions of this young man, before he went down the path of drugs.

I don't know what the scriptures have to say about donating ones organs after i've passed away, but I feel that if it will do some good for someone in need; then I am all for it. Even though I was taught that the human body is like a temple of the Lord, donating an organ will be my final act of kindness for our brothers and sisters. I am sure that the Lord will bless me for offering.

My dad donated his eyes when he passed a few weeks ago--it was all they would take from him at his age. Not long after that I read about a man who had had his vision restored from a cornea transplant from an organ donor. Coincidence?
