Luke 5: 1-10
Now it happened that while the crowd was pressing around Him and listening to the word of God, He was standing by the lake of Gennesaret; 2 and He saw two boats lying at the edge of the lake; but the fishermen had gotten out of them and were washing their nets. 3 And He got into one of the boats, which was Simon’s, and asked him to put out a little way from the land. And He sat down and began teaching the people from the boat. 4 When He had finished speaking, He said to Simon, “Put out into the deep water and let down your nets for a catch.” 5 Simon answered and said, “Master, we worked hard all night and caught nothing, but I will do as You say and let down the nets.” 6 When they had done this, they enclosed a great quantity of fish, and their nets began to break; 7 so they signaled to their partners in the other boat for them to come and help them. And they came and filled both of the boats, so that they began to sink. 8 But when Simon Peter saw that, he fell down at Jesus’ feet, saying, “Go away from me Lord, for I am a sinful man!” 9 For amazement had seized him and all his companions because of the catch of fish which they had taken; 10 and so also were James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, “Do not fear, from now on you will be catching men.”

I try to imagine myself in Simon Peter's shoes( or sandals.lol). "Let down the nets? But I just got done untangling all the knots, and just finished washing all the junk and debris off the nets for the day. I went out for the most part of the day and worked, only to end up catching nothing. Now you're asking me to go back out to sea and do it again? How will this benefit me in any way?..." is normally what runs through my mind even after I've read those verses hundreds of times.

Ever had a day like Simon Peter? Ever gone through life's motions of either work, school, family, friends, appointments with doctors, walking the dog, or maybe just running randoms errands during the day when all of a sudden something astonishing happens? Hopefully none of you, when you wake up, says anything like this to God, " Father, today from 8:00am to 7pm I will be too busy to do anything for you. My whole day is fulled with much to do, and many places to go. I've got so much planned that I won't have time to really connect with anyone today.". Now I imagine that none of us say that, right? But I can imagine that we, myself included, live that way most of the time. I think we find ourselves really not expecting anything big to happen during our daily routines in life. So what happens when God decides to mess up YOUR daily routine, causing you to fall to your knees and give Him praise? Do we look for those moments where God is calling us to move and do something? When we do feel lead by God to do something, do we do it when it's only convenient for us, on our own time? Do you ever ask yourself when you're doing something that God is( or might be) calling you to do, like going on a mission trip or giving a phone call to someone you know is struggling, asking is it beneficial? I'm sure Simon Peter was thinking the same thing when he made his way back out to the sea again that day. Now the best case scenario for a fisherman would be to....... catch a whole bunch of fish, eh? I'm not sure if that was Simon Peter's thinking while he was going back out to sea, but I'm sure when he gave a pull to raise the net for who knows how many times that day, he had no more doubts about why Jesus asked him to go back out and work again. God would never ask you to do something that wouldn't help benefit your relationship with Him, or give him all the glory and praise after questioning if you should do what He has called you to do or not. In 1 John it says,
"THIS IS LOVE FOR GOD: TO OBEY HIS COMMANDS. AND HIS COMMANDS ARE NEVER BURDENSOME".

I'm sure there are many stories from several different CC members about a time when God come along during what seemed like a normal routine day and just ruined it for the better. I hope this thread reminded you of a time in your life when your day started out so average, so routine, only to have it end by going to bed that night truely amazed of how God works through all things in life.

Trying to shine,

Hard work and diligence will bring forth fruit to you labor but how much more abundant is the harvest when even through our doubt we do as the Lord tells us anyways? I believe Christ was pretty tired in body as well...so tired that a point to say he "sat" down in that boat was made. Never grow tired of doing good. This is the will of the Father.
