I will never have any doubt that God still works miracles after what He did for me. I pray that this testamony might provide others with a fresh awareness of the awesomeness of God!
In 1994, my right internal carotid artery was crushed as a result of a trauma to my neck. The tissue on the outside of this artery stayed intact...however the tissue on the inside broke away and folded over itself creating a total blockage of that artery (jugular vein) . Of course I didn't know this was what had happened internally until later.
The left side of my body and face went dead and I couldn't hold myself up (stroke symptoms). I was at work and unknown to me, there just happened to be a devout Christian man in the office who provided a Christian prayer healing ministry to the local hospitals, etc.
My Coworkers started to rush me immediately to the hospital (which was good..lol)..but before they did, the praying man put his hands on my head and shoulder and started praying out loud right there in the offices with everyone standing around me watching. It was a pretty unusual and unexpected scene in that environment to say the least.
The deadness to my face and body went away within a few hours. The med techs ran tests. In fact, they ran 1 particular test 3 times (the last time bringing in their supervisor to run it) just to make sure what they saw was real. They told me..."Uh...I'm not sure what this means but it appears your blood is flowing backwards on one side of your head." (Their actual words). They told me I needed to go see my doctor immediately. (duh!)
My doctor ran lots more tests, including running a tube from my leg to my neck similar to what they do for heart patients. What they found was that I had a 100% occlusion of my right internal carotid artery (my official diagnosis). Or to put it another way, my r.i. jugular vein is now a solid mass and will never be good for anything besides just hanging around looking pretty.
So how am I still alive?...or how did I not die immediately? Well that question has baffled more than one doctor for sure. The medical world has now actually refined a surgery to provide patients with pumps to make their blood do what mine did...and continues to do to this day.... on its own!
At the point I should have died, my body found, or formed...without medical assistance....an alternate route accessing smaller blood vessels for my blood to flow back and forth between my brain and the rest of my body. It did this in a way and with an amount that was adequate to keep my body and brain functioning (except for a couple hours numbness), and it did it by pumping my blood "backwards" or in whatever manner was needed to keep me alive.
It has been 17 years..I still get tests to take a peak every few years and everything is exactly the same... the blockage and alternate route of blood flow are still the same.
Now...maybe a skeptic could pass this off as some weird freaky thing of nature that happened...but the fact is I KNOW God performed this miracle. Whether he did it the second when I was prayed for or whether He simply designed my body knowing I would need some weird freaky thing of nature to occur in 1994......This is His work either way...and all the glory goes to HIM!!! THANK YOU FATHER!
