I was an alcoholic for 25 years. Beer drinker!!! Loved it. Couldn't and wouldn't put it down. In Dec. of 2007 my son and two of my nephews ( which were two of my brothers children) were out drinking and partying. My son was driving. They were on their way to my son's house. It was a rainy and foggy morning. He took a curve too sharp and lost control of the vehicle, It spun out of control and wrapped around a tree. 3 houses from where he lived. One of my nephews was thrown from the car and the other had major head, neck and spinal injuries. He was laying in the back seat and the tree hit right at his head. He was pronounced dead at the scene. My son: A broken leg..At the time I didn't know it but Gods hands were all around that scene. A State trooper had been following them, Not because he thought he had been drinking but that there were reports that someone had been breaking in homes in that neigherborhood and he was curious as to what they were doing there at that time of the morning. He arrived seconds later and was able to act quickly in emergency response. Paramedics arrived and was able to revive my nephew but is was still in serious condition. I got the call from Vanderbilt trauma unit first, that they were there. And I had the awful deed of calling to inform my brothers what had happened. I can remember we all arrived at the hospital about the same time with the same look of disbelief in our faces I had the hardest time looking them in the face because of what had happened. Days were spent at the trauma center. My son was released after 2 days. And my guilt was so overbearing. My one nephew who was inside the car was said to never walk again. He was sent to the Shepard Center in Atlanta Ga. to learn to cope with his disablity. And my nephew who was thrown from the vehicle chances were slim. I have a large family 4 sisters and 4 brothers. they were all there. We prayed long and hard and I remember telling God that if he would let them live that I would never drink another drop, And praise the Lord at that moment he took away the urge. For 4 month's our family talked with God about this and everyday he would do something miraculous for us to see. We prayed and praised and I think this pleased him. Today they both doing so well. My one nephew walks and is doing things he done before and my other pulled through like a champ. My son of course had to answer to the law, and rightly so. But I do know that he also learned a valuable lesson. And yes I am sober, Praise God!!
