I had this house key and one day it bent, I was so sad until I found out that it still worked! Everyone would laugh when they saw my key, and at first I laughed too and was going to get a new one, but why? I didn't need a new one. My key tells a story...a simple one, but one everyone should hear, because it's true for everyone.
“I feel like my house key, it's bent and imperfect, but it still gets the job done. Like me I'm broken, I fall, I mess up, and I was born a sinner...imperfect, but God still has a purpose for me. He can and will still use me for his will.”
The greatest example I can think of is King David. In 2 Samuel chapter 11. David lusted after a woman, and then committed adultery with her, she became pregnant. When the woman's husband would not sleep with his wife, because he felt guilty for not fighting with his king, king David sent him back and had him killed. David covered up one sin with another and God was not pleased. However, God still used David.
2 Samuel 12:11-14, "This is what the LORD says: 'Out of your own household I am going to bring calamity upon you. Before your very eyes I will take your wives and give them to one who is close to you, and he will lie with your wives in broad daylight. You did it in secret, but I will do this thing in broad daylight before all Israel.' “Then David said to Nathan, "I have sinned against the LORD." Nathan replied, "The LORD has taken away your sin. You are not going to die. But because by doing this you have made the enemies of the LORD show utter contempt, the son born to you will die."
David knew he had sinned against God, he fell short, missed the par, he was broken and imperfect, but God could still use him and he did. He was a man after God's own heart, stated in 1 Samuel 13:14, “But now your kingdom will not endure; the LORD has sought out a man after his own heart and appointed him leader of his people, because you have not kept the LORD's command."
I am my key, I'm imperfect, bent, broken, but still usable in God's eyes, and so are you.
