As christians we are told to walk in the spirit and not in the flesh, because we can not please God through the flesh right? What we sow in the flesh, we reap in the flesh and what we sow in the spirit, we reap in the spirit. And so thinking about the flesh, we are so apt to feed it with food daily. Most of us, 3 meals a day, everyday. Fasting is such an awesome way to deny the flesh and let your spirit man take charge. It doesn't have to be a strict denial of food, but just denying your flesh the things that it is used to. I always had trouble with fasting because I didn't like giving up eating, I GOT HUNGRY! But recently I fasted by giving up my morning coffee, and having a peice of fruit for breakfast, lunch and just a few crackers w/peanut butter in the afternoon. My job is physically demanding so I need my energy, and it worked wonderfully. I definately denied my flesh the things it wanted and it totally brought forth my spirt being in a way I never experienced. I didn't have some supernatural vision or anything, but my spirit felt so in control over my flesh. It sort of paves a way for my spirit to be in charge and thus being able to do Gods will a whole lot easier! Because if your human, you know that obeying the things of God can be a struggle. Fasting has proven to be a great blessing to me and I am very excited to do it some more. If you are having trouble reining over your flesh, I suggest doing this simple thing to get a handle on things. :)--Blessings, Derek.
