2 Timothy 4:3-4

“For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires, and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths.” NASB

Most people will prefer to have their ears tickled.

The Past

History does not repeat itself. People just refuse to learn from the past mistakes of others, in turn repeating what has happened to the former. Those who learn from their mistakes or those of others, do not repeat the past mistakes.

The Israelites – Misled by religious lies, which tickled their ears

Forgot his works – Psalms 106:13; 21

Showed their selfish desires – Psalms 106:14

Idolaters, interfaith – Psalms 106:19-20, 28, 35-36

Faith waned – Psalms 106:24

Sacrifice their Children – Psalms 106:37-38

The Israelites gave more glory to creation and not the creator. They did pay for their sins, inwhich future generations refused to learn from and continually repeated. Psalms 106:40-43

The Present –Many are repeating the previous mistakes with ear tickling

They forgot his works and allowed evolutions to intermix their theories with God’s creation. They have allowed their ministers to teach that no matter what you do God loves you and holds not account.

Showed their selfish desires by allowing the spirit of the world to soften the Bible based teachings on practicing premarital sex, homosexuality along with other things by making them now agreeable to God. (1 Corinthians 6:9-10)

Faith waned through the tickling of ears. Because of thing foretold not happening speedily enough for many, their faith in God has waned and they look to thehuman elements to solve their problems. God has not given man the ability to rule outside his guidance so thetrust in them is in vain. (Jeremiah 10:23) Human governments have proved true to thisscripture.

Idolatry and interfaith exist in many Christian and non-Christian religions. Just as the Israelites mixed pagan worship with their worship of the true God many today have incorporated pagan and false worship into their worship. As with the Israelites many feel it is okay with God, but the scriptures say the opposite.

Sacrifice their Children to the Godof War. Christians who fight fortheir country are often involved in the killing of fellow Christians in other countries which we are commanded to love and to give our life for. John 13:34-35; James 2:8; John 15:12-13

Many wars are acts of selfishness and are tainted with lies of those who stand to benefit greatly from them. Americans painting a bad picture of native Indians allowed them to take possession their land and accomplish mass murders deeming them pagan and thus not worthy of what was theirs. The British and Irish war, the Hutu’s and Tutsis of Rwanda’s genocide consisted of majority Christians, to name a few.

As time continues we find this the same with many current wars. In each country people are given one side, which allows them to support warring with the other country placing the God of War or Nationalism above love of fellow believers, a form of ear tickling.

The Future – God does care isyou allow your ears to be tickled

God required all his worshippers to worship him the way he requires. The Bible is clear abou tthis. For those who do the best they canto follow his commandments he promises this at Psalms 37:10, 11 and 29:

“For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be: Yea, thou shalt diligently consider his place, and he shall not be. – But the meek shall inherit the land, And shall delight them selves in the abundance of peace. – The righteous shall inherit the land, And shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.” ASV
