2 Timothy 4:3-4

“For the time will come when they will not endure sounddoctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires, and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths.” NASB

Mostpeople will prefer to have their ears tickled.

ThePast

History does not repeat itself. People just refuse to learn from the past mistakes of others, in turn repeating what has happened to the former. Those who learn from their mistakes or those of others, do not repeat the past mistakes.

The Israelites – Misled by religious lies, which tickled their ears

Forgot his works – Psalms 106:13; 21

Showed their selfish desires – Psalms 106:14

Idolaters, interfaith – Psalms 106:19-20, 28, 35-36

Faith waned – Psalms 106:24

Sacrifice their Children – Psalms 106:37-38

The Israelites gave more glory to creation and not the creator. They did pay for their sins, in which future generations refused to learn from and continually repeated their mistakes. Psalms 106:40-43

The Present –Many are repeating the previous mistakes with ear tickling

They forgot his works and allowed evolutions to intermix their theories with God’s creation. They have allowed their ministers to teach that no matter what you do God loves you and holds not account.

Showedtheir selfish desires by allowing the spirit of the world to soften the Bible based teachings on practicing premarital sex, homosexuality along with other things by making them now agreeable to God. (1 Corinthians 6:9-10)

Faithwaned through the tickling of ears. Because of thing foretold not happening speedily enough for many, their faith in God has waned and they look to the human elements to solve their problems. God has not given man the ability to rule outside his guidance so the trust in them is in vain. (Jeremiah 10:23) Human governments have proved true to this scripture.

Idolatry and interfaith exist in many Christian and non-Christian religions. Just as the Israelites mixed pagan worship with their worship of the true God many today have incorporated pagan and false worship into their worship. As with the Israelites many feel it is okay with God, but the scriptures say the opposite.

Sacrificetheir Children to the Godof War. Christians who fight for their country are often involved in the killing of fellow Christians in other countries which we are commanded to love and to give our life for. John 13:34-35; James 2:8; John 15:12-13

Many wars are acts of selfishness and are tainted withlies of those who stand to benefit greatly from them. Americans painting a bad picture of native Indians allowed them to take possession their land and accomplish mass murders deeming them pagan and thus not worthy of what was theirs. The British and Irish war, the Hutu’s and Tutsis of Rwanda’s genocide consisted of majority Christians, to name a few.

As time continues we find this the same with many current wars. In each country people are given one side, which allowsthem to support warring with the other country placing the God of War or Nationalism above love of fellow believers, a form of ear tickling.

TheFuture – God does care isyou allow your ears to be tickled

God required all his worshippers to worship him the wayhe requires. The Bible is clear about this. For those who do the best they canto follow his commandments he promises this at Psalms 37:10, 11 and 29:

“For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be: Yea, thou shalt diligently consider his place, and he shall not be. – But the meek shall inherit the land, And shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace. – The righteous shall inherit the land, And shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.” ASV

Though our natural inclination is to want to hear what is pleasing to our ears, what we really need most of the time are Bible-based counsel and discipline. (Proverbs 16:25) King Ahab wanted to hear only what pleased him; his servants even asked the prophet Micaiah to let his word become “like the word of one of them [Ahab’s flattering prophets], and you must speak good.” (1 Kings 22:13) Had Ahab been willing to listen to straight talk and change his rebellious ways, he could have prevented the terrible battle losses to Israel and also his own death. For our own spiritual welfare, we should be quick to respond to the firm, yet loving, counsel of mature christians, who want to help us to stay on the straight path of truth, rather than search out people who keep telling us how wonderful we are, tickling our ears with flattering speech!—Compare 2 Timothy 4:3.

One can almost tell who have their ears tickled by going back a few verses i.e. 2 Tim 3:16 i.e. whoever says the O.T. a.k.a. scripture is for Israel people only.
More interesting is a few more verses earlier i.e. 2 Tim 3:8 - the analogy between Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses and false teachers opposed the truth. Let whoever has the eyes sees.
