O
A Winter's Night
On this winter's night that's just begun
I stand beneath a well worn sky
Gazing at the far off distant lights
These days are getting shorter now
And I'm standing on the very edge of night
I feel the touch of long lost dreams
While all around the world grows dark and still
And overhead the stars shine softly
Casting down such feeble light
But I know these stars I see tonight aren't mine
Still I feel the ache and yearning deep inside
There is no warmth to stem this cold
And frosted starlight can't retrieve our dreams
And on this night that's just begun
My words have failed to be my friends
Their steadfast comfort's been undone
And left a tuneless song that won't be sung
And those dreams that brushed against me once
Belong to someone else
And Summer's face, once held so dearly
Has long withdrawn and disappeared
And only left these stars for company
On this winter's night that's just begun
I stand beneath a well worn sky
Gazing at the far off distant lights
These days are getting shorter now
And I'm standing on the very edge of night
I feel the touch of long lost dreams
While all around the world grows dark and still
And overhead the stars shine softly
Casting down such feeble light
But I know these stars I see tonight aren't mine
Still I feel the ache and yearning deep inside
There is no warmth to stem this cold
And frosted starlight can't retrieve our dreams
And on this night that's just begun
My words have failed to be my friends
Their steadfast comfort's been undone
And left a tuneless song that won't be sung
And those dreams that brushed against me once
Belong to someone else
And Summer's face, once held so dearly
Has long withdrawn and disappeared
And only left these stars for company
