what do I think

well...been a while since I ever thought about utilitarianism (I just remember someones body preserved in musuem) but if ethics was a party it would be the biggest party ever where everyone had a good time and everything was free and the people hosting were happy to host and provide for the greatest number of people...and everyone is invited. Those who dont want to come just dont come.

Whether it just lasted for a day or one week (cos parties cant sustain themselves forever) I guess the success or outcome would be that everyone remembers a good time.

that does not always translate into ...something that happens ALL the time though because happiness is fleeting - nobody is ALWAYS happy. we have good days and bad days.

Now if Heaven is this party then its something else because Heaven is eternal and flesh and blood cannot enter the kingdom, so...make of that what you will....Jesus said straight is the gate and narrow is the way, few be those who find it....yet...it is also said that the descendents of Abraham will be as stars in the sky and sand on the sea shore i.e in their billions and trillions, uncountable...

It is also said that a third of the angels fell so that means 2/3 of the angels stayed on Gods side so...in the end good outweighs/numbers evil by 2/3....

Interested that you say happiness is fleeting. I think you are quite right in that. Nevertheless, some of us, at ease in our skins, experience a deep-seated contentment, and this may be what Bentham and Mill were getting at.

Best wishes, 2RM.

hmm I wouldnt call it happiness, or even contentment I would call it peace

People do want to live in peace, rather than war and strife.
