At no time were first-century Christians commanded to pay tithes. The primary purpose of the tithing arrangement under the Law had been to support Israel’s temple and priesthood; consequently the obligation to pay tithes would cease when that Mosaic Law covenant came to an end as fulfilled, through Christ’s death on the torture stake. (Ephesians 2:15; Colossians 2:13, 14) It is true that Levitical priests continued serving at the temple in Jerusalem until it was destroyed in 70 C.E., but Christians from and after 33 C.E. became part of a new spiritual priesthood that was not supported by tithes.-Romans 6:14; Hebrews 7:12; 1 Peter 2:9.

As Christians, they were encouraged to give support to the Christian ministry both by their own ministerial activity and by material contributions. Instead of giving fixed, specified amounts to defray congregational expenses, they were to contribute “according to what a person has,” giving “as he has resolved in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” (2 Corinthians 8:12; 9:7) They were encouraged to follow the principle: “Let the older men who preside in a fine way be reckoned worthy of double honor, especially those who work hard in speaking and teaching. For the scripture says: ‘You must not muzzle a bull when it threshes out the grain’; also: ‘The workman is worthy of his wages.’” (1Timothy 5:17, 18) However, the apostle Paul set an example in seeking to avoid bringing an undue financial burden on the congregation.-Acts 18:3; 1Thessalonians 2:9.

It's just me, but tithes are given and not paid. If you want see giving in the NT, look at the early church. They had all things in common. Meaning they shared what the had.

Acts 4
[SUP]34 [/SUP]Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold,
[SUP]35 [/SUP]And laid them down at the apostles' feet: and distribution was made unto every man according as he had need.
[SUP]36 [/SUP]And Joses, who by the apostles was surnamed Barnabas, (which is, being interpreted, The son of consolation,) a Levite, and of the country of Cyprus,
[SUP]37 [/SUP]Having land, sold it, and brought the money, and laid it at the apostles' feet.

But, then this.

Acts 5

But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession,
[SUP]2 [/SUP]And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles' feet.
[SUP]3 [/SUP]But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land?
[SUP]4 [/SUP]Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.
[SUP]5 [/SUP]And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things.
[SUP]6 [/SUP]And the young men arose, wound him up, and carried him out, and buried him.
[SUP]7 [/SUP]And it was about the space of three hours after, when his wife, not knowing what was done, came in.
[SUP]8 [/SUP]And Peter answered unto her, Tell me whether ye sold the land for so much? And she said, Yea, for so much.
[SUP]9 [/SUP]Then Peter said unto her, How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? behold, the feet of them which have buried thy husband are at the door, and shall carry thee out.
[SUP]10 [/SUP]Then fell she down straightway at his feet, and yielded up the ghost: and the young men came in, and found her dead, and, carrying her forth, buried her by her husband.
[SUP]11 [/SUP]And great fear came upon all the church, and upon as many as heard these things.

Is tithing a requirement, or is this just another OT law, that was nailed to the cross?
There is no mention of tithing in the 10 commandments.
Have churches today become a little like the pharisees who "tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs, and pass by justice and the love of God." (For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome.)
Peace be with you, in the old testament, it is the law of the letter and in the new testament, it is the law of the SPIRIT (Romans 8;1-17). The law of the SPIRIT says; 'If you practice one thing of the old law, you must practice all.' 'If you disobey one thing of the old law, you disobey all and are under curse.' CHRIST has freed us from this old law (yoke of slavery) by fulfilling them to condemn sin which was ruling in everyone. Apostle Paul's reminder to the free (Galatians 5;1) that don't fall under a curse by practicing even to the least in the old law.
JESUS even corrected the Pharisees about tithes; 'straining out a small fly but swallow a camel.'
New Testament scriptures speaks about generous offerings, collections for the church and in the book of Acts, believers selling a piece of their property and bringing the money to the Apostles. It is all about LOVE sharing with those who lack and not claiming what they own is theirs.
The Pharisee mentality has caught on, sadly to those who do not continue in the teaching of CHRIST and practice them.
(Galatians 5;4).
The pattern of the Apostle's letters to the churches reminds us of their concerns against false doctrine creeping into the churches, men who are trying to gain control over the weak. They reminded and stirred up the memory of the church leaders not to be deceived by raven wolves who implements again the yoke of slavery. This deceiving people were once among them but have gone ahead of them.
May GOD the FATHER in the name of LORD JESUS CHRIST bless all readers in kindness, peace and spiritual discernment because of HIS richness in Glory forever and ever, Amen.

Tithing as taught today is an income tax, which is a modern idea, not a biblical one.
