Does reading the Bible or praying make someone a better Christian?

Hey Selenah,
It doesn't make you better in the sense of "more righteous than someone else".

But bible study and prayer DO help you to grow and mature.

The word "better" is probably not the best word to explain what you're trying to say.

Being a child listening at your Father's feet makes you grow as a Christian. You must hear all His words, both as they come to you through the bible and through your listening spirit.

Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. I see prayer and bible reading as two wings of a bird. If one is shorter than the other the bird flies in circles. Both are equally needed.
