Civil Rights Group: CFCC drama club denies student production due to Christian message
WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) -A student drama production at Cape Fear Community College was denied running because of its Christian message, according to a national civil rights group. The drama club advisor told Justin Graves, a student at CFCC, that their production would have to be adjusted in order to make the religious content less obvious, according to Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF).
The non-profit legal organization ADF advocates for the right for people to freely live out their faith. ADF sent a letter to CFCC saying their decision to have students adjust the production is in violation of the students' First Amendment protected rights.
"The school has to treat secular speech and religious speech even-handedly and allow it to go forward," Travis Barham with ADF said. "The fact that it might offend someone doesn't matter because the first amendment exists to protect speech that might offend people and it exists to protect religious speech."

CFCC officials confirm receiving the letter and say they are reviewing it.
