Deconstructionism- is a 20th Century school in philosophy initiated by Jacques Derrida in the 1960s. It is a theory of literary criticism that questions traditional assumptions about certainty, identity, and truth; asserts that words can only refer to other words; and attempts to demonstrate how statements about any text subvert their own meanings.

Also taught by certain churches to move away from traditional Biblical teaching.

Reformation- A 16th-century movement in Western Europe that aimed at reforming some doctrines and practices of the Roman Catholic Church and resulted in the establishment of the Protestant churches.

Today some may consider reformed theology to be that of Luther or Calvin but there are modern churches calling for a modern reformation as well.

Revival- a reviving of interest (as in art, literature, or religion). Historians can list many revival movements throughout church history.

There is always a call to stray to or from the accuracy of scripture so it is always important to study the Bible with the knowledge (knowing) that the message is infallible.

Nothing has been lost so there is no new revelation needed in relation to scripture. When someone calls for change or to revive, the number one question should be what are we changing or what needs reviving?

Reformation or revival can just as easily take the form of deconstructionism. Revival of interest is a good Biblical definition that falls in line with the call to preach and urge people to repent but a revival of lost revelation, lost practices, lost doctrines, etc. can be misleading or anti-Biblical.

The reforming of doctrines can equally go one or two ways. Closer to God’s original Word or further from the original thought.

I say this to bring light to such movements and expose the possible deception of words. Words carry meaning and often carry multiple definitions. Understand the history of the word, the modern use of the word, and the many ways it can be used.

There is nothing more annoying than when talking about the same subject, and the same words but finding yourself in confusion because the other group or person defines them differently.

Once you discover this, then it gets complicated as now you must define each word to get an accurate understanding of their view.

The best question to ask is “What do you mean by _______?
