Hi it's probably an old age thing, but just wondered if it was possible to
have a sticky with a list of abbreviations.

Several times recently I've come across some head scratchers, which
depending on what you think they mean, can completely change the
meaning of a post.

LOL I assume is laugh out loud, but another person thought it
Meant lots of love :p. Maybe it's both? You can imagine the
Confusion this can cause

ROFL. Roll on floor?

GB. Took me a while to realise that was God Bless as it can also
be Great Britain etc.

Ppl. Some use this for people but I saw an oldish thread where it was
Used for the colour purple! Hi purple is rather strange ;)

IMO. Seen this lots of times, what is this exactly?

Posts with lots of these unknown abbreviations, combined with
mis spelling can look like a foreign language at times

There's also

IMHO... in my honest opinion

SMH... shaking my head

LMBO... laughing my butt off (the original uses A not B, for another word, but even using the letter A instead of B, on the site can get you in trouble)

You may occasionally run into TL;DR (or some kind of variation of it, like TL/DR), which is shorthand for "too long, didn't read," followed by a synopsis of the original post.

Something I learned back when the Internet (anyone else remember Compuserve?) was new was J/K. It means Just Kidding, but oddly enough no one knows that anymore. Come on, peeps. The younger folks are supposed to be teaching us old folks how to speak InternetSpeak, so how come an oldie knows InternetSpeak you young folks don't? It's just not right!

(BTW, Young folks is anyone under 50, IMHO. lol)

I always thought JK was some sort of reference to John F Kennedy! Aw well
that explains why I never got the jokes (JK)
