Neither shalt thou go up by steps unto mine altar, that thy nakedness be not discovered thereon.
What do you suppose this is referring to?

I remember someone saying it once, that there is a possibility that someone could see their genitalia from underneath them because of the kind of clothes worn. Im not sure, what I'm sure of is that God thought of everything :p lol

in the 'paganism' of that time in idolatrous practices and rites, they dressed
in a very provocative manner...many of their religions were based on the 'fertility-rites'
and sexual innuendo was rampant...

God is basically telling His people not to learn the heathen way but to keep themselves covered when
ministering or approaching God...

there are several other practices that make no sense from our cultural standpoint, but
the answer is because the pagans were doing this and God was teaching his people that
they were to be separate and not learn or practice the ways of the heathens.....

Hey phil! great to see you again. Read Exodus 28:42,43.
It could also have to do with steps leading up to the altar and the fact that the strides the pirests would have to make going up by steps could reveal their private area. Some suppose a slope was more in keeping with what was the way the altar was ascended to by.
