Galatians 5:22-23 tells us about the fruit of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
General definitions of what a fruit is include:
-a product of plant growth
-part of a plant that contains a seed
-offspring: product or result of an occurrence
John 15:1-6
Jesus tells His disciples that anyone who abides in Him should bear fruit. Anyone that does not abide in Him will not bear fruit, as Jesus is the main vine and we are just the branches coming from Him.
He tells the disciples that they are already clean because of the Word He spoke to them (the message of the Gospel that they had received), but they still to abide in Him to bear fruit.
Those who don’t bear fruit will be separated from the vine, and are useless to the kingdom of God.
The fruit of the Spirit is a physical manifestation of a Christian's transformed life. Just as the maturity of a plant leads to the growth of natural fruit, Spiritual maturity results in the production of Spiritual fruit. Fruit is always a sign of maturity. Maturity as believers leads to this fruit becoming more plentfiul in our lives.
The seeds contained in the fruit produced can be sown to produce more fruit. We can each sow the seed of our fruit into the life of another and provoke the growth of fruit in their own life.
