I was talking to someone at church about this and they looked at me like I had just spoken heresy and at worse like I was a complete flake.

When living overseas some years ago, there was a poltergeist in my home. Initially my wife and I were both blissfully unaware of it. I am not one to believe in such things as ghosts. I am very dull to these things.

We moved into a condo which had been empty for a number of years. At night upstairs sounded like heavy furniture being dragged across the floor - only to find out that the condo above was empty and noone lived there. Then it got worse, opening fridges at night, kitchen cupboards. Then it started knocking on the door and shaking the door, turning the taps on and leaving lights on. This wasn't every day, it was only immediately after any social occasion or having guests. We joked that it was fine when it was just us, but as soon as we had a dinner party, it would act up afterwards as we had been too noisy. Guests who stayed with us said they heard it calling their name.

Believe it or not it was more an inconvenience than anything and we were never scared of it. It wasn't like a horror story or anything. It was just something we lived with. It even seemed quite benign.

Of course, we prayed every night and when our first child was born, we prayed even more and moved out very soon after. I suppose we didn't worry too much because we knew Jesus is greater in power. Our pastor came and prayed (he had no clue about exorcising anything) but it didn't help. We all tried to pray it away in Jesus' name, but it didn't work.

What are poltergeists anyway? Demons? I did think that it is merely a demon - though I couldn't figure out why it was doing it. We only heard from the security guards that our condo was known to be haunted as a lady had been killed there.

When I told the person at church, they said after that they didn't believe such things or stories - this was annoying as it wasn't a story or my imagination. I witnessed it, my wife, our friends who stayed with us etc.

Has anyone experience anything like this? What was the right thing to have done?

Well, if you're under the belief that such things happened from a 'ghost', then no, it's not really a ghost.
Ghosts, poltergeists, etc... would be demons.
My mother lived in a place that had such things going on as well, before i was born.
But your 'merely a demon' statement was rather interesting.

For awhile. I was glad when he moved out... he was lousy about keeping up with his rent payments.

Once.
In college.

It was alright....l never saw it much.
It was always at work or at frat parties.
I think?

....besides the occasional tipped box of cereal, or door slam....one wouldn't even know it lived there.

Mine steals socks and hoodies. Occasionally it takes out the garbage which is weird.

Mine also does the usual poltergeist stuff like turning on lights and leaving doors wide open. Leaves teeth marks in the tv remote or just flat carries it off to some weird place and leaves it there.

I wish it were true....I wish it were true. When it steals my hoodies it also chews on the hood cord ends. It chews up plastic forks and leaves them on the floor and throws silverware in the garbage. My poltergeist is a peculiar one.

I stayed in a relative's house where the older son was out of town temporarily. Jet lagged, I lay down in his room and got some sleep. I had this dream about the devil talking to me on the phone through this guy some folks had tried to do deliverance with. At the end of the dream, I saw a glowing growling lion face in the darkness in the closet as it spoke to me. I opened my eyes looking at that same closet that looked exactly the same without the lion. The young man whose room I was staying in was a struggling believer, but he'd started hanging out with witches, had fallen into fornication and had a porn magazine stashed right where I'd seen the lion face. His mom called him about the dream. He confessed to having the porn magazine. It was right there behind where I saw the lion in the dream apparently. I went in the other room so as not to see it and she took it out and burned it. (He'd also agreed to that.)

He'd been depressed over girlfriend troubles. He'd even cut himself and looked down and saw some kind of symbol. He'd been hanging around with a witch and his girlfriend he'd been sleeping with had these demonic-sounding dreams. He said something was in the bedroom. He could feel it sit in the bed. He said it would knock stuff over.

I have a friend who said when he was a child, he lived in a house where doors would lock. They'd drive home over the hill and see the light on in the second story of the house and it would be off when they got home. They thought it might be an optical illusion, so when the pastor came to visit one night, they drove and didn't see the light in the window. The pastor's wife would stay in the car and never go into their house he said. One time he was asleep and I think he said he was having this weird dream, and his mom was having difficulty waking him up. When she came in the room, the wind was blowing the curtains but the window was closed, he said. He said he woke up and saw a dark silhouette figure by the bed.

Other than the lion on the bedroom, I don't think I've ever been anywhere where stuff shook or were knocked down or thrown around by evil spirits. But I can sometimes sense demonic presences. But I think a lot of people sense something. My cousin liked to talk about aliens. I'd watched a Hugh Ross program where he presented a lot of convincing evidence that some close encounters and UFOs were demonic in nature. As my cousin and I talked, I told him about this. He didn't believe that. I asked him if he sensed something watching us as we talked. He did. I think I nearly had him persuaded that that was a demonic entity rather than an alien.

Psalm 150:6 Let everything that has breath praise the Lord! \:)/

Philippians 4:6 & 7 Be anxious about nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

John 16:33 These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you might have peace. In the world you will have troubles; but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

I actually have 3 poltergeists living my house. My kids have even given them names. Wasn't me.....I don't know.....and He did it. Sometimes they refer to He did it as She did it so I think they are confused about that ones gender.

those would be familiar spirits that are doing that.. they work up and down family lines.. indeed... when the Veil is pulled away, then you understand their true identity and their spiritual source as far as a 'father' goes.. indeed!
