I was talking to someone at church about this and they looked at me like I had just spoken heresy and at worse like I was a complete flake.
When living overseas some years ago, there was a poltergeist in my home. Initially my wife and I were both blissfully unaware of it. I am not one to believe in such things as ghosts. I am very dull to these things.
We moved into a condo which had been empty for a number of years. At night upstairs sounded like heavy furniture being dragged across the floor - only to find out that the condo above was empty and noone lived there. Then it got worse, opening fridges at night, kitchen cupboards. Then it started knocking on the door and shaking the door, turning the taps on and leaving lights on. This wasn't every day, it was only immediately after any social occasion or having guests. We joked that it was fine when it was just us, but as soon as we had a dinner party, it would act up afterwards as we had been too noisy. Guests who stayed with us said they heard it calling their name.
Believe it or not it was more an inconvenience than anything and we were never scared of it. It wasn't like a horror story or anything. It was just something we lived with. It even seemed quite benign.
Of course, we prayed every night and when our first child was born, we prayed even more and moved out very soon after. I suppose we didn't worry too much because we knew Jesus is greater in power. Our pastor came and prayed (he had no clue about exorcising anything) but it didn't help. We all tried to pray it away in Jesus' name, but it didn't work.
What are poltergeists anyway? Demons? I did think that it is merely a demon - though I couldn't figure out why it was doing it. We only heard from the security guards that our condo was known to be haunted as a lady had been killed there.
When I told the person at church, they said after that they didn't believe such things or stories - this was annoying as it wasn't a story or my imagination. I witnessed it, my wife, our friends who stayed with us etc.
Has anyone experience anything like this? What was the right thing to have done?
