Yes, we should stir up the spirit, and act on the spirit.
"Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands."
2 Timothy 1:6
We should minister to others when led, and as a first priority: Love.
Genuinely loving each other is so important.
But I struggle sometimes.
For me to be effective in this world, and for God, I feel like I need to be spirit filled. I need to feel and be lead by the Holy Spirit and act with genuine love. So after days of searching and meditating and praying, I feel ready, satisfied, JOYOUS.
I can approach people with love! I can do good works with joy! I am eager to talk to others, and share the love of christ.
But what I noticed, is that sometimes my heart and spirit can be very sensitive when facing other spirits.
Also, our tongue is so powerful. We as christians must be very careful about how we use our tongue.
James 3:3-10
If we put bits into the mouths of horses so that they obey us, we guide their whole bodies as well. 4 Look at the ships also: though they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are guided by a very small rudder wherever the will of the pilot directs. 5 So also the tongue is a small member, yet it boasts of great things.
How great a forest is set ablaze by such a small fire! 6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of unrighteousness. The tongue is set among our members, staining the whole body, setting on fire the entire course of life,[a] and set on fire by hell. 7 For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and sea creature, can be tamed and has been tamed by mankind, 8 but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. 9 With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse people who are made in the likeness of God. 10 From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brothers,[c] these things ought not to be so."
I just had a very in-depth conversation about spirituality with someone who believes in Jesus..but also believes in 'other saviors'. every word I spoke was genuine and with love..but it had to end quickly. Eventually it started getting to a debate, and what seemed like attack.. and I felt anger arouse
I had to bring up something from proverbs:
"The beginning of strife is like letting out water, so quit before the quarrel breaks out."
Now, I feel like I need a whole day of meditation, and constant prayer to get back to a state of righteousness.
How are we supposed to train our spirits to converse and minister with a loving yet dilligent attitude?
We have to fight a good fight. We have to diligently walk to God in all situations, no matter what we face. We have to seek His spirit in all our situations, and peruse that loving spirit. Always. God is training us always, and I hope for the day that my training will be strong enough to outpour more love when it is needed.
1 Timothy 6:7
"Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses"
