How do you help someone with an addiction? I'm not going to go into detail because it's a bit of a personal matter but they're kind of spiralling out of control and I'm worried for them... I'm scared its going to get worse. I have prayed and prayed and have been stressed about this for ages - any ideas? :(

Praying and letting the Lord work, is how i have seen the lord deliver people. In his time, or if they could get some help.
It is sure a hard thing to deal with, but God is able. The word says when you have done all you can do stand, and see
what the lord will do

Thank you :) It is just unbelievably frustrating not being able to take things into my own hands and just try to make it right though... I have been praying for a very long time. I hope God listens :(

He hears you, with him all things are possible, it just may be in his time though. the word says if two agree on earth it shall be
done, agree with someone and then just stand on that word. I will agree with you for complete deliverance in Jesus name
Matt18:19 Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.

Essentially there's nothing you can do unless that person A) admits they have an addiction B) acknowledges it is destroying them and their lives C) they want to change and get past the addiction. If the person is not willing to admit these three things then nothing will make them stop. They would die before quit.
But different kinds of addictions require different types of approaches. Drug and alcohol addiction has different methods of treatment than, say, a porn addict.
If it is drugs/alcohol then check online for an American TV show called 'Intervention'. Its a great way to learn the mindset and behaviors of people suffering these addictions. I suggest, if you can find it, watching at least a few different episodes as it can be quite fascinating to see how similar people act under those circumstances.

That's very helpful, thank you! And she has told me she thinks its an addiction but I'm not sure if she fully understands how bad it is. I'll look on youtube for that tv show as well, thank you

I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY suggest you:

1) Attend a Narcotics Anonymous Meeting (to help you understand what this person is going through)
2) Attend a Nar-Anon meeting OR an Al-Anon meeting
3) If the above are not possible check out the free literature on their websites

I'll go ahead and provide the links to the websites for you. It has been my personal experience that these programs really DO work IF you're willing to utilize the tools they provide.

I will be praying for you and this person you're trying to help!

main thing is, unless they actually want the help. about all you can really do is hope for the best and be ready for the worst.

An addict must want the help him/her self , Although sure you can make it easier by knowing you are their for him/her and supporting them but the need to be clean must really come from the addict , i wish you and the person you ar reffering too all the best :)

Katie, I have been EXACTLY where you are! I was unfortunate enough to be born with that lousy addictive gene. I was a habitual repenter, and a habitual back slider. I was at the brink of becoming an athiest because it seemed my prayers were just drifting off into empty space, but the Jesus I fell in love with when I was only four years old, and who got me through a very sad childhood would not let my heart go, and I decided to find out for myself what God had to say about anything and everything "in his word". That changed it all!!! Not right away, but I found that there is more power in getting as much scripture into your brain as time and circumstance allows than you can imagine until you take it to task. I had been reading as James 1.5-6 recommends for about six months, and still I could not quit smoking or pass up a line... One night I prayed, not to be delivered, but to tell God how sorry I was that I still did things that were not right, and I felt a wind blow through my whole being, and I never picked up another cigarette, and the next line that was laid out for me, I walked over and bent over to do the usual, and a great pair of invisible wings drew me back, and I was so free!!! As you can see I am old, but I am still young too. I still have my health and my youth, but all the prayers and sermons didn't do that for me, it was "--receiving with meekness the engrafted word--" James 1.21

Just to affirm this to others that might read this and have a negative reaction, John 6.63 says "--the words that I/Jesus speak unto you are spirit and life", and Eph.3.16 "that he would grant you, according to the riches of his gory, to be strengthened with might by HIS SPIRIT in the INNER man".

By all means, do not pick a Bible version that is easy to understand, because that is God's wisdom tampered with by humans. James 1.5-6 says to ask God for wisdom, and 2 Tim.2.15 says, study to show yourselves approved of God. So it is logical that you study to gain approval, and then wisdom is granted.

God's grace to you girl
