New Holiday Marshalls commercial understands the true meaning of Thanksgiving. Good job Marshalls for supporting families.

And I will not shop on Thanksgiving and if many others would do the same then maybe people who are forced to work instead of being with family, will be able to to be at home with their families atleast one day on Thanksgiving.

If the concept of "family" was still as cherished now as it should be, then people would stop shopping on Thanksgiving, forcing companies to close for the holiday.
Unfortunately this is a sign of the times.....right has become wrong....family time has become unappealing and forgone, being replaced with commercialism and monetary gains (or whatever else fills that void in people's lives).
*sigh* Great now I depressed myself lol I need to go back to my cooking so I can get happy again.

Well, I must admit that when the family has dispersed at the end of the day, I have been known to check out the sales online in preparation for Christmas gifts. Even if all the stores closed, there will be the internet which is now almost the leading retail market.

Sigh....

yes...I remember when....stores were always closed on holidays

now it's just the holidaze of shop till you drop and go into debt until you are 150 years old

and going to a movie on Christmas day? I'm like.....nuh uh

even if a person did not believe in God, it still used to be family time

those were wonderful...family times! I miss them alot.....:(

Maybe there are some people out there who really need the extra money... so....

working on Thanksgiving is actually a good thing for them.

Not trying to be a contrarian, but sometimes there are different ways to view things.
Personally, I've never considered this a big enough issue to develop an opinion.

But, it's cool to have strong views on things that matter to you, and you guys have every right to voice your opinions, and vote with your pocket books. That's cool.

Extra money?
You do know that retailers treat all days the same. Very few pay extra for Sunday or holidays.
A lady in our church works for WalMart and she has to go to work at 6 pm Thur. All they did is change her days off from WED-THUR to TUE-WED. No extra hours and no extra money.
I refuse to shop on Sundays or holidays.

I have never in my life been shopping on Black Friday (black as in accounting, it's the stores Christmas gift).

I promised to buy Crescent Rolls, but thinking about the long lines I think that I won't fulfill that promise.

I support the idea of supporting our economy. But if you look at the values of family and how much they have changed within the last 50 years. We have a growing problem. And since violence and poverty stricken neighborhoods are filled with one parent's homes and the loss of discipline and structure, we see the outcome in many cases a home without both parents or a broken family. Not all the time but in many cases a child needs the structured discipline of a dad and the caring love of a mother. Both parents acting in love to produce a child who for the most part upholds what's right in Gods eyes, the law of the land, self-independent, not searching for the easy way or free handouts, how to work hard, and to uphold the value of family. We evangelicals living in the United States have a voice just as much as anyone else. And we are technically the last line of defense to protecting family values, and structure. The thing is even secular way of thinking still sees family to be important but no one is willing to try and make a difference. What would happen if everyone decided to not shop in store or online on Thanksgiving? The stores would see the huge drop in numbers and consider the day to be profitless. Its only one day to allow the employee to have time with family and to not allow the opportunity to attract people away from their family.

Look at chic Fil A for instance who allows its employees to be off on every Sunday, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. They are defiantly still making money and doing quite well. Another thing also is to remember to put your phones or computers down. Stop the temptation and communicate and play with the people you love right in front of you. Be thankful for all you have and remember God deserves all the glory.

I also do not see black Friday or cyber monday as bad because its a great way to inflate the economy and is separate from Thanksgiving. Plus this allows people who are not so fortunate to be able to get good deals on already overpriced products. I wont be shopping late at night on black Friday but I have gone to stores during the day of black Friday or got really nice deals for my kids on cyber Monday. Yesterday my wife found a deal to get 2 pairs of children's shoes for under 60 bucks. I made sure to buy them yesterday and I will not be buying anything today in less its an emergency but other than that Happy Thanksgiving!
