C
In a heat of praise you gushed from the green,
Lord God: you were a child then to me.
In every field or hill and tree you watched
Me with still, inquiring, raptured eyes,
And sought insight into who or what I am
To you, the all in all, the what and how;
And tried to find in heart or mind the sign
Of my ever-unendless-thanks to be for Thou.
But Lord, how little am I drawn by depth
So as to have your throne all here and there,
Now everywhere in sunlit chapel earth.
Refashion, Lord, reform me as a child:
Help me to hopefully see in this mystery
The throne from which I came,
....................to which with hymns I go.
