Description:
Working class hero, renegade priest, recently humbled by the people's response to his imminent retirement and humiliated by the Hierarchy; Father Bob Maguire signed a 'deal without honour' with Bishop Denis Hart to buy time before being forced into retirement. Dedicated to the charter of the second Vatican Council Father Bob believes in living the 'word' and giving the church back to the people. He eschews the flourishes of fancy dress and avoided strategies that might have brought him personal power. But do the 'people' want a church 'for the people', or are they happier with the clerical pomp and ceremony that shrinks their Catholic responsibilities to a mannered attendance at church on Sundays. Does Father Bob hail from a dying breed or is he a prophet of the future?
