I would say you are all correct on baptism and as for the children "So the baptism of babies is just nonsense." well in the church I went to it wasn't called baptism for children but it was to say that the caregivers/parents would bring them up in God's Word. Don't remember the exact term for it.
It is neither wrong nor right to be baptized. I was baptized a few years back although I have believed and was cared for by God since I recall at 11 years of age. The church where I was baptized had like a large vat built into the floor of the church and at the time I was very weak in health. The others who were baptized before me were screaming because it was very cold water in the winter. I was shocked and frightened that I might suffer a heart attack because of my low health so I prayed. It was awesome because as I walked down into the water it felt very warm and when I came back up out of the water the helpers asked me if I was okay and I smiled and said yes. They said, 'but the water is so cold' but it wasn't for me and I knew God had warmed it for me to still my fears.
I remember when my 2nd brother drowned my mom's big fear was whether he would be condemned because she never got to baptize him and then when I lost my 2 month old baby this woman came up and said, 'oh no, now he will go to hell because he wasn't baptized.' gulp!!!
When you think on the doctrine of the Bible think also of the various situations you may find yourself in. God said, is there no man here who has wisdom ask and it shall be given.
Water, fire or anything else cannot save you for it is God who quickens. Remember why there was a need for a New Covenant.

I am glad to know that you have a reunion one day with those that have gone on before you. All God and none of me, as you already know.
