I would say no, because most are obsessed with thier sinful addictions and, sports, TV, music, etc, than the word and obeying it, but there has to be a healthy balance here.

You first and formost must be grounded in the word, and have a true saving faith, please see my many posts which explains repentance and faith well.

God must be first, and His word must be in our heart and thoughts, as we hide His truth there, we must flee from all immorality and worldliness, and be ready to give an answer to the hope that lies within us.

Its not wrong to enjoy certian activities such as working out to keep fit, walking and hiking, camping in the great outdoors etc, but when these activities become your main focus, where you spend all your free time doing these things, and neglect the word, then you are in great idolitry.

Most in the professing churches today have no truth what so ever! They think by saying a prayer, apoligizing to God they sinned, and then accept the package deal that Jesus is now thier substitute, and they are free and clear, to just believe without any repentance, obedience, and sacrifice, then they are deceived!

So I dont think one can be too hot for God, as I said, most are dead to God, and alive to thier flesh, sin, addictions and worldly past times at the expense of truth.

Most have never repented, and are still defiled, and have no clue what real heart purity and faith are.

We are commanded to hunger and thirst for righteousness or doing what is right, but most hunger and thirst for the things of this world, where thier obsession isnt for truth and heart purity, because some false teacher told them they were born a poor helpless sinner, unable to stop sinning in repentance to receive the mercy of God!

So they remain in bondage to porn, lust, worldly attractions, alcohol, smoking etc... But told they are saved and going to heaven!

I guess if you can say hungering and thirsting for righteousness is obsessive, then I would say you cannot become to obsessed with God and His truth, especially defending and contending for it.

Obsessed:

Preoccupy or fill the mind of (someone) continually.

Jos 1:8 This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.

I believe there is a healthy obsession, or passion for God, and an unhealthy obsession such as obsessed with immorality and the lust of the world!

Maybe it was bad wording on part in some of these cases... Instead of saying, "Too Obsessed with God," maybe it's more like, "Too Obsessed with Our Own Idea of God."

I heard an excellent sermon today about the fact that Christians can be sincere, but also be sincerely wrong.

And the example was of Saul before he became Paul. No one could say the man wasn't all about his faith. It's just that, his idea of God at the time led him to kill the very people who believed in Him.
This is what i thought you meant to begin with. :S And yes I absolutely think it is possible. It makes it obsession with religion, not obsession with Love. And this is very problematic.

I'm not done letting God fill me , therefore until He has , I can not Jane an outpouring towards man... Especially while I'm allowing God to quench my thirst :)

Was Paul or Peter, or any of the other apostles too obsessed with God?
How about Moses?
How about Elijah, or Isaiah, or Jeremiah?
Or any of the other prophets?
How about John the baptist?
.....................................
or how about Jesus' obsession with doing the Father's will?

Just a thought.

At the time I wrote the post, I didn't word it exactly the way I should have as far as communicating the ironical thought.

As said before, Paul WAS "obsessed" with following God. Even when he was still Saul, and killing Christians.

Perhaps what I'm trying to ask is, "Is it possible to think you're following God with all your heart... but are on the wrong track? And if so, how do you get back on the right track?"

Many people. for the sake of believing they are following God with all their heart, have done great harm to themselves and to others in the process. The original intent of my post was to discuss how we can know the difference...

Perhaps the Pharisees would also be a good example of this. They quickly became about following the religion of God, not following God himself. As a result, they became obsessed with an idea of God as opposed to Truth/Love that is God. And that idea ended up becoming very disparate from what is holy and true.

Is that what you're trying to get at?

That is the reason we exist, to know God and show that love to all people.

I've been struggling, on and off, with an idea that was presented to me by a pastor a year or so ago. The idea of loving God, of loving everyone is so simple. Can you really believe that the pharisees, people who memorized the law, who's life revolved around God's commands, really didn't know that they were commanded to love God above all others? And beyond that, they not only knew, but they sought to follow all of the commands perfectly. It's the same in the world today. Do these people who are 'too obsessed' not know the first, and greatest, commandment? These people, who are often too zealous, must know the first commandment, and the second and...

So if they know this commandment, such a simple single sentence, how can they end up consumed by an idea so disparate from Truth? Is it because the command is easy to understand, but applying it is difficult? I honestly don't have an answer. Perhaps this is worthy of its own thread.

To use the word fanatic or obsessed is questionable. Real Holy Spirit work like in John The Baptist was not ever seen except in Elijah some of the prophets were close in their day, but with us even if the Holy Spirit is uniquely over flowing to legitimately be too heavenly minded so that you are not any earthly good is not possible the difference is the Holy Spirit is completely perfect with fruits of Himself and is gentle kind peaceful and not overbearing to our own choices but He does have fire and intensity that we may not be familiar with He knows this and is gentle the difference is we may go into the flesh when He goes beyond our understanding, John the Baptist did not he had all his life been filled with the Holy Spirit and was complete in his experience of the person and character of the Holy Spirit and did not go into the flesh in any of his ministry but other Christians we do not know so anything that a Christian does may be beyond the spirit into the flesh so our hearts knowing and consulting the Lord is the best way to make our own choices following the Lord as best as we can and are anointed and filled to do.
