It is literal. If you love Satan you'll believe all His lies. If you love God you'll believe all His truths. If you love money you'll believe it's the only key to happiness. Ever heard the phrase love the sinner hate the sin? Because you have to hold back some love, you can't believe everything people say without doubt or examination. But if you completely love God you will completely believe everything He says. So yes, as far as you love you also believe. If you love someone you trust what they say.

Jesus loves as perfectly as anyone can, and He did not trust men. He trusted (obviously!) GOD. and told us too also.
in Scripture somewhere, or more places, it is written "whoever TRUSTS MAN , I CURSE (*Yhvh the Creator curses) ...

I´m prone to believe it´s GOD´s issues, His will, His ways to know "we love Him more than us" and, conversely, when we practice it believeing those we KNOW some risks: They can lie (we can too). They can hurt (we can too) but, if doing things well (more than usual) this human love can endure, bearing those things hard to cope with, just by believeing His is GOOD, and NO one else.
