• · “And whosoever shall fall on this stone shall be broken: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder. And when the chief priests and Pharisees had heard his parables, they perceived that he spake of them.” (Matthew 21.44,45).

What do these mean translated into non parable form. I can understand basically what it means, but there are two different ones that apparantly have a different meaning that Jesus will affect those who reject Him in different ways.

Question did by Pamelasv:

 • · “And whosoever shall fall on this stone shall be broken: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder. And when the chief priests and Pharisees had heard his parables, they perceived that he spake of them.” (Matthew 21.44,45).

What do these mean translated into non parable form. I can understand basically what it means, but there are two different ones that apparantly have a different meaning that Jesus will affect those who reject Him in different ways.

Matthew 21: KJV

42 "Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord’s doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes? {43} Therefore say I unto you, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof. {44} And whosoever shall fall on this stone shall be broken: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder. {45} And when the chief priests and Pharisees had heard his parables, they perceived that he spake of them. {46} But when they sought to lay hands on him, they feared the multitude, because they took him for a prophet."

Jesus is talking about Himself here. He is the Stone. The chief corer stone that everyone should build their faith upon.. Those who reject Jesus shall be destroyed..

Ephesians 2: KJV
19 "Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God; {20} And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone; {21} In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: {22} In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit."

Acts 4: KJV
5 And it came to pass on the morrow, that their rulers, and elders, and scribes, {6} And Annas the high priest, and Caiaphas, and John, and Alexander, and as many as were of the kindred of the high priest, were gathered together at Jerusalem. {7} And when they had set them in the midst, they asked, By what power, or by what name, have ye done this? {8} Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and elders of Israel, {9} If we this day be examined of the good deed done to the impotent man, by what means he is made whole; {10} Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. {11} This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. {12} Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved."

It meant that the chief priests and Pharisees, who were the religionists and legalists of Jesus day, were toast.

See that there are two types of chastisement:

 • whosoever shall fall on this stone shall be broken:
 • on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.
What does it mean each one of this penalties?

To fall on "this stone" is to fall on Christ...........repent.....seek salvation

To have the stone fall on you is to be condemned by Christ

Very intersting. I didn't have thought of this mode.

Finally I came to the following conclusion:
The ones who fall on this Stone
(Christ) are the ones who stumble in the Word (in Christ) through unbelief and are therefore condemned (John 3:18,36).

· “For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.” (James 3.2).

· “And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.” (1Peter 2.8).
· “Wherefore? Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were by the works of the law. For they stumbled at that stumblingstone;” (Romans 9.32).
· “And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.” (Matthew 11.6).

As Jesus is the Living Word, hence the reason why we will be justified or condemned by our words
(Matthew 12.36,37). After all, if with a word that Jesus says things around us can change (Matthew 8.8), then we have no right to waste time uttering words that make no difference in the lives of individuals around us or worse: that harms them.
The ones on whom He falls are His enemies, whom He will destroy at His Second Coming (Dan 2: 44,45).
In other words, those who try to follow Christ in laws and good deeds stumble in Jesus and His word, coming to be destroyed; Those who try to oppose Christ and His Church will be cast down by Jesus at His coming.
Finally, may Jesus grant us the grace to be the Cornerstone of our life's building.
