NYPD: Officer Shoots Man Who Attacked Partner With Hammer

A man wanted for a string of hammer attacks in New York City was shot by a police officer in Midtown on Wednesday after he struck the officer’s partner three times in a swift-moving confrontation caught on video, authorities said.

David Baril was listed in critical but stable condition at Bellevue Hospital Center with three gunshot wounds—one each to his back, elbow and neck—police said. A metal claw-hammer was recovered from the scene and was being tested against DNA from one of the officers and the victims, officials said.
Baril is the suspect in four hammer attacks, and when Officers Geraldo Casaigne and Lauren O’Rourke approached him near Penn Station after noting his hoodie up over his head but still resembling the suspect in the attacks enough to warrant questioning, Baril suddenly pulled the hammer out of his sweatshirt and swung violently at O'Rourke. Casaigne fired four shots and brought the attacker down. He remains in serious condition in an NYC hospital.

There were obviously a lot of people near Penn Station with cell phones, and there are a lot of videos to be seen online. I've watched a half-dozen of them and the thing that ticks me off is that four of those cell phone owners can be heard complaining that they "shot that man" even though their own video shows the attack on O'Rourke preceding the shooting.

This idiotic "cops out of control" narrative is reaching dangerous proportions. Our U.S. attorney general is doing nothing to curb it, and our previous A-G encouraged it. Local D.A.s like Baltimore's Marilyn Mosby are more concerned with appeasing activists than they are in supporting the men and women who protect and serve us.

This whole thing just disgusts me.

In the past year, or so, I have been studying "The Mimetic Theory" in some depth. You might enjoy some reading about this observation of mob reactionary behavior.

Very interesting to say the least, and appears to be quite apropos. Thanks for your insight.
