Why do some believers receive good council and let it fall by the wayside...?
In this parable, those beside the road are those who have heard; then the devil comes and takes away the word from their heart, so that they will not believe and be saved (Luke 8:12). These are not believers.

Why do some believers receive good council and let it fall by the wayside...?
Matthew 13:18-23New International Version (NIV)

18 “Listen then to what the parable of the sower means: 19 When anyone hears the message about the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in their heart. This is the seed sown along the path. 20 The seed falling on rocky ground refers to someone who hears the word and at once receives it with joy. 21 But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away. 22 The seed falling among the thorns refers to someone who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, making it unfruitful. 23 But the seed falling on good soil refers to someone who hears the word and understands it. This is the one who produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.”

Seed sown along the path is sorta like in our daily travels we may speak of Jesus with a man or woman in town but never see that person again. Our talk of Jesus could of been the only time in that person's life someone took the moment to tell them about Jesus.

So they hear the good news but are not taught enough or fully understanding their need for a savior and oh so easily the devil who is of the world creeps in and then t lies telling this person all sorts of things to stop him/her from believing.

And so the seed fell along the path and had no chance to grow. These are not believers but potential believers. The believers are the next 3 seeds on stoney, thorns, and fertile soil.

Another Parable to chew on----- Mark 4:3-9-------- what are your thoughts on making God's Word fruitful in our lives?------ what are some of the soil problems? ------- how does this Parable apply to us?----- be sweet---- fighting with brass buckles is for the world***** Hearken: Behold, there went out a sower to sow. And it came to pass, as he sowed, some fell by the wayside, and the fowls of the air came and devoured it. And some fell on stony ground, where it had not much earth; and immediately it sprang up, because it had no depth of earth. But when the sun was up, it was scorched; and because it had no root, it withered away. And some fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up, and choked it, and it yielded no fruit. And other fell on good ground, and did yield fruit that sprang up and increased; and brought forth, some thirtyfold, and some sixty, and some an hundred. And he said unto them, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

I think with a little more reading, this parable alludes to the Churches (Christian) that will be and how they still are today. You will find that the seeds are people (Christians) and the ground they are sown in dictates how they will survive or not.

Even the seeds that fall on the best soil, require water to grow. Just as the children of God require living water to grow.
Good post...what is the function of water on spiritual seed?

****that is true in regard to Salvation---- I'm referring to believers who hear the Word on other issues--- they let a lot of teaching go in one ear and out the other---- especially if it challenges them...

*** the Holy Spirit is Living Water and it convicts us, guides us, and is our helper---------we cannot grow without the Spirit--- the Spirit and the Word agree together...

****when you put God's Word into your heart to grow in any area of the Kingdom this process takes place----there will be obstacles to you becoming fruitful----example you decide to be a Witness for Christ----you tell someone about the Lord and are rejected---what kind of soil is in our hearts will determine if we continue to be a witness---will we be scorched by criticism? ----we will begin and after awhile find other things pulling us away from witnessing?---will the lust of other thing enter in and choke our witness...?

The good soil is the grounds of the heart that have been made ready to receive the engrafted word through a godly repentance that worketh salvation not to be regretted that can save ones soul.("ie" the guile is removed, and the rebellion ceases)..Solomon said the preparation of the heart belongs to man ..

Amen, it it Christ who can make our hearts soft through the doctrines of God, the water of the word. The good soil is determined by the living water that flows beside it. Man can prepare his heart by planting the seed and watering it. But God who performs the work make it grow. Our repentance is part of the growing process. as he turns us towards Himself by the hearing of faith as new creatures we then can repent.

I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase. So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase.1Co 3:6

In John Calvin's commentary (you can find this resource online), he interprets this that only the seed on good soil represents true believers, those who, as Jesus said, "persevere to the end." John Wesley might have acknowledged some who ran well until they were choked out by thorns as Christian. He would say that they fell away. Both Wesley and Calvin would agree on the final state of of those choked by thorns or shriveled up in the sun.

***you have to put the Word of God in the good soil of your heart to produce results----healing, finances, salvation of loved ones, victory over problems, ect...
