The story's as bogus a $3 bill. The lawyer claiming the police are "secret" and "no-shows" is just trying to garner some headlines.

Facts: Starting in 2009, the police department began to award donors with credentials as reserve policemen. By 2014, the department had about 100 reserve officers to protect a township with a population about 300. The reserve policemen had badges and identifications that exempted them from pistol-free zones while carrying concealed. Some seem to have also retained bulletproof vests and other equipment bought by the village with their donations.

The village disbanded its police department in September 2014 after the Michigan Township Participating Plan cancelled liability insurance for the department over concerns of its use of untrained police officers.

If you want to find something "disturbing," find it "disturbing that the Guardian wrote this story on it's U.S. website nine hours ago, seven months after the village disbanded it's police department. Talk about making something of nothing!

VW what you provided was only more proof this corruption was going on, just confirms the OP article, not making it bogus as a $3 bill as you claim.

I find this to be somewhat interesting. I would think with a community of this size, that it would make sense for them to essentially police themselves.
