you never have it until after you needed it.
it's the best teacher, and the worst -
it gives the exam before the lesson!

You said you had two answers? Whats the other? I was suppose to answer life, well life is made up of experiences but its a broad answer i guess..

i thought "forgiveness" or "mercy" is also something you can't have until after you need it too,
but forgiveness isn't something you have to go through a whole lifetime to receive -
I will remove the sin of this land in a single day. (Zechariah 3:9)
- so my extra hints narrowed it down.
