I go out and evangelise when the whether is nice here in VT, and I can not tell you how many times I hear people who are adverse to Christ tell me "Christians killed how many people during the crusades?"; which considering the history of the crusades, if one really knows it (and I am not excusing the crusades, just saying that when people tell me that they often say it from ignorance and hypocrisy) is not nearly as bad as the other comment I often hear, which is, "Why should I be a Christian, they do same thing thing everyone else does. There divorce rates are about the same, they all watch porn" and so on.
It mortifies me every single time I have to answer this.
My reply is that Christians are human, and we make mistakes to, God gives us grace and forgives us, and our human sin nature does not change who Christ is and what He did for us.
But frankly, many of us are not good witness's. We are like ancient Israel. They should have been a beacon, as God wanted, and instead they became a byword.
How many souls have we let slip through our fingers because of our weak witness?
God help us.
Lord help me.
