TIMMIE LOU
Coral Gathman Cook
The day was calm and beautiful
The snowflakes fell all day
This was the day my dear Lord chose
To take the child away
Her skin was smooth, her eyes soft grey
Her cheeks were rosy red
But now this child of beauty great
Lies in her grave. She's dead
She's dead I say, but mean it not
For she's alive this day
She's embedded in my heart
And that is where she'll stay.
Her skin was fair. Her eyes were kind
Her smile was sweet as spring
And whenever she was happy
Her eyes would dance and sing
Oh, my dear God, please tell me why
You sent me Timmie Lou
And then just took her back again
To live up there with you
She was my hope, my dreams, my fears
My sunshine and my rain
Why did you send her down to me
Then take her back again
Oh Timmie Lou lived not in vain
Though she's beneath the sod
She came to earth and left again
To bring me close to God
