II SAMUEL 24: And again the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and he moved David against them to say, Go, number Israel and Judah.

I CHRONICLES 21: And SATAN stood up against Israel, and provoked David to number Israel.

the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel

And SATAN stood up against Israel

Both of these indicate how David perceived God for a moment.
As an adversary instead of a Father.

The "contradiction" is there on purpose to teach us something about -
The word "Satan"
The phrase "anger of the Lord"
and how we not supposed to perceive Him

Is God angry like a man or a devil critter in the way we perceive Him to be? Or is His "anger" different from man's anger?

His "anger" caused Him to cry for the first time, a flood.
