You have to be really patient and give the download time to do its thing. If you can't even get to the download part, you may not have enough memory available to download and install or your device may not be compatible.

Can you elaborate on "it's not working?"

You need to:

1. Reserve it
2. Wait until the notification comes up saying your upgrade is ready, then follow the prompts

Be forewarned that you may run into problems with Windows 10. Backup whatever you need before you go for it.

Is it even wise to go from 7 to 10?
I can see 8 to 10 because they are somewhat similar, but 7 compared to 8 is a pretty big difference.

Relatively. :p

It's more or less stable, with the variables being some troublesome device drivers. A "clean/full" install may be better than an upgrade, but more of a hassle.

maybe your computer doesn't have enough memory because of too many programs.Go to the control panel and click on add or remove programs and remove some programs that you do not need that are taking a lot of space.

I went from 8 to 10 yesterday, it went flawless.
Actually I was a little disappointed because I like to 'fix' things, but there was nothing to fix :(

You guys should do a google search on Win 10, esp. the EULA agreement. It's spyware in a big way..... that's why they're giving it away.

Really, folks..... when's the last time Microsoft "gave" you anything?

I'm waiting until the first quarter of next year to upgrade to ten.
That's what I'm thinking. The first release of anything is always more buggy. I'll wait till service pack one or two comes out.

The Technical Preview gave Microsoft a lot to work with, but yes, they are basically violating your privacy beyond precedent, even for them. So far, the biggest hang ups seem to be:

1. AMD drivers
2. Automatic device driver downloads through Windows update (which can be opted out of, thankfully)

I'm strongly considering Linux at this point more than ever. Linux Mint is nice.

OK, my wife got her Win 10 notice.
She has Win 7 but is very computer illiterate and fumbles around, (e.g. she just now learned that you can copy and paste a web address into the body of an email, after 8 years using the computer).
Do you think 10 will be too much a jump from 7 or is it similar enough?
She's not all that fond of change.

Less of a learning curve than going from 7 to 8(.1), though there are some changes that may throw her still. It may be a good idea to let her poke around on your computer that took the upgrade recently and let her decide for herself once she has an impression with that. There's no urgency to make the jump; the free upgrade offer should be good for one year. :)
