(Yes I tried google, it only returned results from 2012 and such).

So, after I installed updates (dunno if they are THE latest as I am lazy and postpone them), weird stuff happened.

First my machine rebooted (well, that it is supposed to do).
Then it started up, but while it had a black screen, there was something about a process (Windows itself) not responding and it asked to shut down the process.
It then started and it almost seemed normal, only it was sloooow
Then all of a sudden, the icons and the menu bar all disappeared and didn't return
I restarted it again, and it took forever

Currently it seems to be behaving, but I am a bit spooked, as previous computers have died this way :/

Anyone else had this problem or know how do deal with it if it keeps creating issues?

Some of the Win7 updates now include ones for Win10, which will install (or try to) itself on your puter now. There is an article here that someone posted so you can go and uninstall that update. I'll look for it and post it for you. :) As far as installing updates, then restarting goes, I've never had a problem with that before. Could you possibly have a virus(es)?

Hmmm. Can't find it (a update of that name) , and it isn't really bothering me about win 10 (only the icon at the toolbar which I've hidden :p )

oh well, will do a full virus scan overnight, the quick scan found nothing

If you have the Win10 icon, then the update is there.. Go to "view installed updates" and look for that number on the update..

My father had this happen a few weeks ago. Then the computer fixed itself. Still not sure what happened. But he has a Linux system-on-a-stick I gave him as a backup, so if his windows becomes completely unusable he can still get online and do stuff on Linux.

Have you ever thought of cloning your system? If anything irreversible does happen to it you could just get out the clone and copy it back to the computer.

If it comes up again, try using a restore point (if available), one saved from before the update(s) that is suspect.

I never thought of making a clone
which I should have.... as all my systems crash at some point :p
might have to do something about that.

- will see when I get back from work if it's behaving

(Thanks for all the feedback)

Idk I never install the numerous ms updates after an uncomely experience i had with the configuration process. Although, I do skim through and snag the hardware and some software updates. Also just to mention that may be the result of the hard drive on its way out. They're only around 60 bucks for a decent sata hdd on eBay, unless you go with ssd which is built like a USB flash drive rather than a record player but are nearly twice as much. If I were you, if you have an external hard drive save any files for keep on there, then reinstall windows and keep it clean only updating drivers and trusted software, and of course what's necessary for a daily runner, to do work and entertain, but not cluttered with things unused. It should go smooth if all is well.

After you have it clean and to par with your visual customizations, prefered programs, necessary updates, and most useful tasteful environment then would be the perfect time for a backup. Which might I add would fit neat and tidy compressed on an external hard drive.

You could also be a do it yourselfer only skimp out on that complex registry vortex, I don't know how well it will do you whether it be infected with viruses or overcome with corrupt updates but you can go through and uninstall suspicious pups (potentially unwanted programs) like for coupons and toolbars, if you've had your homepage of search engine unknowingly changed you prolly got one. That may or may not help. Don't forget to bring up the msconfig and get the startup programs organized in such a way as to favor speed and performance in starting out.
