it's not a question of what you need with regard to the latest and greatest ... it's a question of compatibility

good on the defrag (although all the time is overkill) and McAfee runs interference with other software...it comes with every pc loaded with windows as the os...which is anything you buy off the shelf in a box store...ditch it and buy something that works and does not interfere with your other software...like AVG...I used something more complicated that you prob would not need, but AVG is far superior to the big M

windows 7 is what? 6 or 7 yrs old? I bought a new pc a couple of years ago...loaded with 8...which froze constantly unless I put it into sleep mode whenever I was away....with a free upgrade to 8.1 ... 8 is one of the worst things if not THE worst thing I have had to use...and now 10...I have stopped updates ... they are not compatible with 8...I did manage to upgrade to 8.1 had probs...and well never mind...but if I didn't have all my software compatible with windows I would switch to Apple...

I preferred Vista to 8....anyway....it's a mess

however, you should still ditch the IE browser ... I seriously doubt Chrome or FF are causing yr probs...more like whatever you are running is not compatible..Chrome especially is the browser of choice...Chrome has had it's probs also but it's never a secret and they support and create fixes for incompatibility

I don't know how well a newer browser will run with your old OS...

I used to use AVG... I found it caused issues too. The big M I know is not infallible but it caught issues that AVG didn't.

Compatibility does seem to be the overriding issue. Question is why can't programmers program with compatibility in mind? Google maps regularly crashes my Google android... even products made by the same company can't play nice with each other.

You know, back in the days of the typewriter, I didn't have to buy a new typewriter every 3 years. So why am I expected to shell out for a new word processor every 3 years?

I would use Chrome if I didn't have to individually close numerous popup messages saying it couldn't open my profile. Again, Google Chrome won't play nice with my Google profile. What are these people smoking?

Really? AVG didn't perform good? huh...what can I say...mind you, I use AVAST which is supposed to be the best but after a hack through yahoo mail (a few yrs back) I really got serious on security LOL!

well...I got my husband to use AVG cause he was having probs with add ware and stuff and he's good to go now and found a big diff in performance after I also installed Chrome for him and set it up...I'm the 'go-to' tech in the house...before me, my husband wouldn't even dump the trash...on his pc to be clear...he's way too conservative and I'm 'oh it's new! let's try it!' we obviously don't share pc's haha

oh...my

well, with 7..as in windows defunct os...that will always be a problem...do you keep 'flash' up to date? for running on sites and such

I don't understand the message you say you are getting from Chrome? what profile? I don't understand

will check thread tomorrow...maybe you can get the Chrome stuff sorted...I know it really irks me no end when having pc probs...I have been known to spend like 6 or 7 hours fixing something...but in the end, it's working haha

anyway...be glad to help if I can

Willie-T...
I just purchased a new computer....and for some reason, when I enter the chatrooms, only the right side appears, with the BIBLE messages, but none of the left side appears at all....meaning NO way to communicate. I have never had this problem before...perhaps you and your computer savvy mind can help me? lol

OK, here's one to make you laugh... NOW, as I start to type in a reply box, the page scrolls to the top or bottom all by itself!

I'm telling ya, these things just love to screw with me!

I've tried chrome and firefox, had no luck with them. Chrome, upon opening, would give me 100 messages about how it couldn't open my profile, firefox keeps giving me messages about how websites I do business on isn't compatible.

I'm telling ya, these things hate me. When I went to the doctor on Monday, as soon as they typed my name in their whole system crashed.

Time to join the Amish!
I hear they build nice furniture:p

PEBKAC literally means "Problem Exists Between Keyboard And Chair," although few computer technicians would actually use that acronym within earshot of the repeat offender.

From wise geek.com

Thanks for the laugh. I'm going to have to remember this one. :)

But really... I click reply, I click in the text box, I type a single letter and zoom I'm suddenly at the top of the page. What did I do wrong?

And again, as mysteriously as it appeared, it has now stopped.

Are you using a laptop, by any chance?

Watch your palms, then! I cannot tell you how many times I've had someone think their trackpad/cursor had a mind of its own, when really they were gracing the touchpad and it was registering movement and clicks while they typed. Nearly everyone tells me "nooo it's not that" and every, single, time (save for one customer), it has been exactly that.

Except that I'm using an external keyboard.

Good morning computer! What little quirk do we have in store for today?

:)

My computer is NEW..only a month old...and ever since I got it, I can no longer be part of the chatroom dialogue, whether in the Lounge or the Bible Study or any other room. The Bible verses pop up on the left side but nothing else. NO screen names, no voices, no chatting, nothing else but a blank white screen. I miss the debates! lol Now, I am reduced to commenting and sharing in the forums..but so far, have acquired infractions because someone thinks I am too harsh or make my responses too critical. I surely hope that those who do the judging on that get extra gemstones in their future heavenly crowns.

Disable your trackpad anyway, if you can - both in case it's registering things on its own (it can happen, especially if there isn't sufficient grounding at the touchpad board), as well as so that I look less silly. :p

I think you need an exorcist rather than technical support, Ricky!

Today's fun and games is internet explorer opening and closing itself all on it's own.

Where's that exorcist?
