Every now and then the TV at my parents place can't get a video signal.
(It is a decoder, tuner and TV). The decoder works, because we get sound.... but no picture :(

I tried to google it and found tons of people with the same problem, but few solutions.

The cables should be OK, it has after all worked before
We tried the 30 secs without power then reboot, but no luck

Other ideas?

PS: It's a Phillips TV and Sony tuner, but I assume the brand doesn't matter much to the solution

If all else fail, maybe you can try new hdmi cables?

It may be a driver, what are you using to play the video, and you say every now and again, does this mean it has worked in the past and quit, and worked again?

yes, it has worked, stopped working, worked .... and it is mainly the TV "video" that disappears

With my digital box the TV must be turned on Ch 3 (4 for some) or the cable box doesn't work.

If it's a prevalent issue among a specific model, then it sounds like a model-wide defect. It could very well be the video controller. Not sure if your cable/HDMI ports tout HDCP or what version of HDMI they are, but this is kind of sounding like a mild hardware defect. Maybe it needs serviced(?).

Hmmm
Will keep that in mind.
It is working at the moment, so we'll see what we do if the problem returns
