yeah, but I don't know any geeks that are near enough to teach me. If I go Linux again I want someone to teach me to take advantage of it :D
There's a hooj plethora of community driven help online, but I totally understand. It's a little daunting to make it your primary OS without much prior knowledge/experience. The major distros are becoming bigger and more user friendly as time passes, for what it's worth. :)

I think he was referring to the claim that Linux doesn't get viruses
though I don't know if it is true

Linux "doesn't get viruses" mainly because:

1) "Linux is a 'real' operating system." :p ;) ( as I like to put it )

"Linux is 1000 times more secure than Microsoft Windows can ever hope to be..."

2) Most viruses target Microsoft Windows.

Most viruses target Microsoft Windows because:

1) Microsoft Windows is a -weak- operating system; it is relatively -easy- to exploit its weaknesses.

2) Microsoft Windows is ( has been ) historically the most widely-used platform - making it "more fertile ground" for attack.

It is exceedingly rare that I have ever even heard of someone having "anti-virus software" on their linux platform. Merely having linux as an operating system is generally sufficient anti-virus protection in-of-itself. :D

So.... just because I am stubborn, I don't want to accept the google terms that appear as soon as I open google or youtube.
(Why should I agree that they can spy on anything I type? One thing is them doing so anywyay, but why agree? :p )

That leaves me with a problem:

- I need a good browser
Yahoo simply isn't as good, I use gogoduck to, but nothing so far quite matches google)
- I need an alternative to Youtube.
I tried Dailymotion, but it is incredibly slow and glitchy, and has less christian videos. Is Vimeo better? (I can't bother to register unless it's good)

If I do surrender and agree to google, can I in any way control it? or can they store whatever they want as long as they want?

Google is the best search engine out there, the alternative ones do not provide such a good results. If you dont want google to spy on you, you can use some layer between you and google, so google will see the layer and not you.

For example https://disconnect.me/ or https://startpage.com
You connect to them and they connect to google, so google cant see you.

Umm, StartPage IS a search engine. She'd be better off using that, DuckDuckGo, or Ixquick, rather than Google. Google is horrid and bypasses their own privacy settings. :/

Startpage uses google, its not standalone search engine. Its only a privacy layer with some tweaking. No idea, why they call themselves "most private SEARCH ENGINE", but whatever they wish.

I totally get wholeheartedly what you are saying. Who wants people spying on them? no one! However, knowing everything on the internet can be seen by anyone has made me careful what I say in general and to others in a good way. Now if people working for google or the government see what I post GOOD! because most of it is related to God.

peace sister and hugs :)
