Do any of you have it? Do you like it or hate it? Can you link me to some reviews of it? :)

I have it, and though it is different (a little) it seems to work just the same as Windows 7. "Cortana" is the big exception. That is "Siri" for computers. I now just lean over to my microphone, and verbally ask whatever I want to know. Sometimes she speaks the answer to me, and sometimes it comes up on the screen... often as a website.

A few of the old features are now called by different names, but you soon get used to that.

There are hundreds of sites and books to inform you, so I wouldn't recommend just one or two.

So far (about three weeks) I have found nothing that gives me heartburn. It does seem to be faster.

Don't buy it (W10 or W8.1) it strips down a lot of windows 7 features and has more backdoors for you know who to look at what's on your pc.....

NSA Partner in Crime? Microsoft Admits Windows 10 Auto-Spying Can’t Be Disabled

Stay with Win7 it has less backdoors and also you may want to look into linux like Linux Mint as an alternate OS.

P.S. Turn off windows update it will update asking you to upgrade to W10 and nag you, plus most of the updates are intended to add more backdoors to your current OS.

When does the free upgrade period end?

My buddy upgraded initially, then went back to 7, but upgraded again after a couple updates to 10 came out and then seemed to like it.

You are correct, after that date you have to pay for an upgrade/clean install.

have it. hate it. :/

as soon as he has time, my genius son-in-law is going to switch it to Win 7.

stick with win 7 as long as you can, bluebug. win 10 tells me i must have administrator permission to delete any files it uses to spy.... and i AM the administrator!

What I don't get is why do we have to buy a licence for it after July 29th? Why isn't it free like every other version of Windows? Stupid Microsoft!!

10 replaced 8.1 which was supposed to fix 8

I was ready to throw my pc out the window with 8...patched it with 8.1, then the updates messed it up...even though I don't allow automatic updates...and even re-setting the thing back to an earlier date prior to the updates, did not fix it...instead, i downgraded back to 8 which froze unless I set it to 'away' mode

I am using a laptop now which came with 10...the thing with 10 is that it can be an invasion of privacy

I re-set everything so that I don't allow my info to be out there

Not only will support run out for 7...but IE is also now a dinosaur and a new browser for windows comes with 10

I use Chrome, really like it, and 10 is working...unlike the disasterous 8 and 8.1

so they had a conscience when they offered 10 free...it was their peace offering for 8

so, I guess they expect folks have all the free 10 they want now and will start charging

Actually, an operating system is only 'free' on a new computer. If your computer came with Vista and you wanted to upgrade to 7, you had to buy 7. Or, if you build your own computer you have to buy the os. Companies like Dell have licensing agreements with Microsoft that allow them to sell computers with the os preinstalled. The fact that Microsoft is offering 10 free as an upgrade makes me suspicious.

Mine came with 7. I refused to upgrade to 8/8.1 because I heard bad things about it from other users, and I'm not upgrading to 10 either. When I get a laptop, that will have 10 on it, but my desktop is staying with 7. Now I know the mainstream support on 7 ended last year, and extended support ends in 2020, but will anti-viruses still support it? Cuz Firefox is supported through Norton and that's my anti-virus..

As far as I know antivirus programs will still work with it. I think they tend to be more generic than the security updates you get for your os. But I could be wrong... maybe someone here knows better?
