hello, friends. we have a canon mf216n. i put in a new toner a couple of weeks ago, and since then, anytime we print/make copies, there are dots equal distance from each other going vertically on the left side of the page. i tried to clean the printer as the manual says, but nothing has changed.

help? lol

thanks :)

Have you tried to calibrate your printer? Sometimes after putting in a new toner it needs to be done. Also print a test page.

If the line that is being produced only occurs when using the Automatic Document feeder (ADF) and not when making a copy via the platen glass, the issue is commonly due to a small mark or debris on the scanning glass area that lines up underneath the white vertical ADF roller. A small smudge on the platen glass can cause a "line" to be produced as every inch of the paper fed via the ADF passes over the area and is picked up by the scanner. The ADF roller is located on the left and underside of your lid. The scanning light sits in this area when using the ADF.

You will want to carefully and fully clean the glass in the ADF scanning area. There can also be a strip of transparent plastic on which there can be a mark or smudge. Look for scratches, tiny spots and marks of any sort. You can use a soft lint free cloth either dry, with a little soap and water or water to clean the glass and may have to scrub until it squeaks to remove certain types of marks.

NOTE: Please do not spray the cleaning solution on the glass.

Another way to ensure the mark is removed is to use a credit card by placing in on a angle and sliding it across the glass in one direction. You can then lift the credit card when reaching the end of the glass and return to the other side to slide it across again.

After cleaning the platen glass, run four to five blank/clean pages through to test it.

Does your printer have separate toners and drum cartridges or are they in the same unit? (often called print cartridge)
It might have a scratch/ dent in it.

(so, replace the "toner" if they are in the same unit, the drum if they are separate)
and make sure you replace the correct colour! (might sound stupid, but you have no idea how many customers I've had that replaced the wrong one :p )

:) If you are lucky, the manual will tell you whether the marks are actually from the drum :)
(For xerox machines it was in most cases, but it CAN be other parts of the machine)

I think this is for the correct printer

https://www.usa.canon.com/internet/...16n?tab=manuals#Z7_MQH8HIC0L88RB0AMD0F1Q42K25

Download the e- manual, open the index.html file (it will open as a webpage)
Select troubleshooting in the grey menu at the side
Select printing results are not satisfactory
i tried downloading the e-manual, but it's not working for me, but i figure it's like the cd that came with the printer.

i think it's time for me to throw this thing out window. lol
