Hey all.

I have a SanDisk Ultra 32GB USB memory card thingy.

I've formatted it using the default Windows 7 feature, both with quick format checked and also unchecked.

I've also used SDFormatter, Fat32Formatter, and guiformat Window applications I found online.

It always shows as FAT32 with 29.72GB that's freely available.

I keep trying to put a video file on it that's 10GB but all I get is this error of unhappiness message.

"The file is too large for the destination file system". :(

I've tried a 4.0GB video and get the same error.

I can however transfer a 3.99GB video file though.

I'm hoping for some nerdly advice because this makes no sense to me.

Cheers.

it's because it is formatted with FAT32.

this format doesn't allow 4gb sized files or larger.

reformat with NTFS and you should be fine.

cheers!

you should be able to do this just with the built-in windows format tool by the way -- unless you're using something as old as windows ME or 98 -- those versions don't support NTFS. if that is the case there is no paddle for your creek lol
when you go to format the drive, you should be able to select NTFS from the drop down menu here:

format-flash-drive.png

if that doesn't show NTFS as an option, and you've got any windows version XP or newer, here's a link that explains how to fix it so it does:
Windows does not offer the NTFS format option for the removable drives?

Okay.

I did the NTFS file system stuff thingy you mentioned and it works now.

Such joy.

I'm going to see if that format will play on my Raspberry Pi 2 now and post back in a few.

Thank you so very much you wonderful, nerdy human.
