Started getting an error message from Java yesterday while trying to open Minecraft.

Error:could not open
C:\UsersMyName\AppDate\Roaming\.minecraft\java\lib\amd64\jvm.cfg

I've tried looking it up online and see it's a frequent problem with the jvm.cfg file. Unfortunately, so far, the things i've found either don't help or are too tech for me.

It originally worked fine. Then the error started happening. Somehow after repeated errors it worked, one time, and the next time the error started back up again.
I noticed that there is no amd64\jvm.cfg, so that's confusing, considering it worked that one time.
It's been suggested to delete java.exe, javaw.exe and javaws.ex from System32, but my system32 does not have any of them.
I did find those exe's in another area, but removing them had no effect.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled Java.
I've seen similar errors suggest deleting a JRE folder, but the only file named JRE is connected to Adobe Photoshop.
I have thee more JRE files with what i believe are version numbers.

Any other suggestions i've found were too technical for me.
Hoping someone here has a clue what else to try. Thanks.

I know nothing about Java, but in a tech forum thread someone mentioned some programs needing different versions of Java (32 vs 64 bit) , don't know if it's relevant to your problem.

PS: in my computer, the JRE appears under C:\Windows\System32 .... dunno if the location of yours matters to it's performance

You can try removing Java with Revo Uninstaller; it runs the same uninstaller you already tried, but then sweeps the relevant folders and Windows registry to thoroughly remove any leftover data. You can try reinstalling Java again, then. Sometimes this helps me when residual program data stays behind; gets you a clean uninstall.

Maybe it's an issue with Minecraft? Just a stab in the dark, based on the directory path you posted.

Did not work with Revo.
And when i researched the issue the same error came up with Java separate from the game. I think more commonly it was the Java folder itself, but i did see a couple others with the issue with Minecraft. Also saw this issue pop up with Warcraft, but mine is working fine.
Someone suggested a corrupted path? But i wouldn't know how to fix that. Some said to try changing the path to start with JAVA_HOME, but i wasn't sure how to go about that. And if they meant the path of the error message? And since the error message points to a non-existent folder how would that help?
Nearly every help i saw listed things i don't have, or not in the same place they said, even though the help provided was for the same OS i have, so that's even more confusing.

I tried the link. It was confusing as not everything it said matched up to what i had. And it contradicted itself. I tried various ways but in the end i just uninstalled the game with Revo, and reinstalled. That worked. Everyone else said it didn't work for them. Go figure =P

Thanks to all who responded.

Ah. Bugger. Sorry it didn't work for you. I'm glad you got it working in the end though. That's the main thing. God bless you. :)

Weird issue. Thanks for following up.

Too bad the game requires Java. I haven't installed Java on my systems in years, and haven't really had a need for it, thankfully (too many security exploits).

Ah, well, not like i have a lot that needs securing, haha. Hack my WOW account? I'll get it back. Email? No one emails me anyways. My CC? New account. /shrug
I have no financial or any such things saved. Rare that i ever even do anything financial online. And let them hack and get my bank info. Maybe they can pay my fees for being under all these months hahaha.

I think there's a version of Minecraft that doesn't require Java. But I don't know anything more than that.

Do you play mind craft Tin tin. It seems very popular, but it is something I never got into as I prefer top quality, realistic graphics in a game.

Hi brother. Yes, I play Minecraft. I'm not very good though. I enjoy a creative open sandbox type of game every now and then. My favourite games are rather old: the Thief stealth series, the Age of Empires series, Psychonauts - that sort of thing. The most 'recent' game that I have (and that my computer can run) is Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood. But I haven't got very far.

I see, I love RPG games, ones where you can fully immerse yourself and customise your characters gifts, abilities and equipment. Also I prefer a massive world you can explore and make decisions as you go along changing the storyline and ending - there great! drools lol

I always thought Minecraft looked stupid too. For years i refused to go near it. Until one day my then girlfriends son wanted me to play it with him. Just to be nice i did. I played nearly every day the next month and a half i was there, even when he was at school, haha.

As its lacking in the graphics department, what is it that has made the game such a success?

PC. I don't game much anymore, but I'm a PC gamer.

I'm not sure why Minecraft did so well. I imagine the open-ended LEGO-like/creative/low-key RPG gameplay made it rather accessible and it probably had a great marketing team. Also, people can make mods rather easily. You can build pretty much anything in the game and you can collect resources to make many different items etc. Maybe it was the answer people wanted to the glut of 'ready-made' games on the market. People wanted something they could tailor to their needs.

Some people enjoy the fighting element, which i have no clue why since i think it's horrible. I think much of it is the ability to build and create. Learning how to use devices. Like having doors open automatically, while keeping all that causes it to work, hidden. Building functioning elevators. Some people have made giant water slides, giant... 'statues' for lack of a better word. Lot of things you can make. You can collect materials by exploring and killing animals, mobs, etc... going into caves to mine. Some of which have instances, so to speak. Or you can go into creative mode and have the ability to fly and have all materials at your disposal in unlimited supply if you're more into building. So it has various facets and ways to play the game. Different ways to focus on it. The challenge of finding new a better ways to do things, or finding something never been done.
So it's things like that that i think make it a big hit, because on the surface it should flop. Everything is blocky and the music is mellow and calming. But it's a huge hit because it has variety. And, as tintin said, it's become easy to create mods and there are all sorts.
It's like the expansiveness of WOW, but instead of being told what to do and where to go and when, you decide for yourself, with the creativity of K'nex. And having online options so building houses and whatnot with defense mechanisms to keep others out, etc...
And some of what you can build and design gets quite complex and requires a lot of thinking and planning and problem solving. I haven't even tried most of what i've seen done.

Make sure your java path is correct in your minecraft profile from the launcher.

The java path should be (for me this is it):

Program Files (x86)\Minecraft\runtime\jre-x64\java version\bin\javaw.exe

Just replace java version with the version of java you are using.

If that location doesn't work or doesn't exist, try pointing it to the javaw.exe location for windows. Those paths should be (I think. might have to google it.):

32 bit: program files (x86)\java\java version\bin\javaw.exe
64 bit: program files\java\java version\bin\javaw.exe

Just replace java version with the version of java you are using.

If those don't work, try deleting c:\windows\jre folder.

Here is a fix on the internet I found with a similar error. Might be worth a shot:

Here are the exact steps to solve could not open 'C:\Program Files\Java\jre8\lib\amd64\jvm.cfg' error:

1) Go to C:\Windows\System32
2) Search for Java in that folder
3) Remove java.exe, javaws.exe and javaw.exe from this folder
4) Open command prompt
5) Type Java it should work

Last resort would be to backup your minecraft saves in %appdata%\roaming etc. and reinstall both it and java. A pain if you are running a lot of mods.
